YOu can get a product to wrap the exhaust pipe at most hop-up shops, dirt bike shops.

Yeah I've considered that as well since the pipe is the only thing that's left open to radiate the heat to the hood... I think that I may still have some laying around somewhere from the last header intallation...

Cub Cadet just needs to forget this plastic hood and go back to the metal one. Any money they saved by going plastic has to be lost in all these replacements and retro-fits and what ever else they try to do to mask the real problem. I know some don't like the 3 piece design of the metal hoods but I feel it works better than having to replace the plastic one.
I know I would be pissed off if the warranty runs out and then stuck with the cost of a clearly bad design.

Michael

Yeah its a bad design for sure. My Dad's 1863 has a 3 or 4 piece plastic hood and has never had a problem, but it's totally different from the one piece deal that I have.

Troy, excellent tin work on that exhaust! I know other major manufacturers use this design on Kohler powered GTs. Kubota is one. Regardless, I still think it's a design fraught with danger. IMO, it's designed to protect people and not equipment. That's too big a heat load to hold right up to the engine and $$$ PTO clutch.

Thanks! It helps having a CNC machine at work and me being head sheet metal designer...LoL!

At this point I don't know what痴 worse. Buying hoods or PTO's....

Is it possible to 'dynamat' the underside of the hood above the exhaust on these? The peel and stick, silver insulating stuff?? That and like diesel nut says, wrap that obscene looking exhaust pipe. I'd consider a nice smaller E-fan to attach to the inside of the grille as well. A smaller one you could wire right to the headlights.

That would help too. I know what you are talking about of the looks but you get over it pretty quickly.

Kubota & CC both had some problems with plastic body parts on some models.

I wish they would go back to the hoods that tilted open to the front of the tractor. That way there's less moving parts/latches and you stand over the engine to service it. With a bad back I even have a hard time pulling out/ putting in that oil stick with the press fit 'O' ring that secures it. I'm just out of position.
