After many years I am tired of raking the rocks out of my yard from my snowblower. There seems to be no way of controlling the height of the blower above by crushed stone drive. Its even worse now that I added the quick hitch adapters that move the blower farther back so that it raises and dips even more when the front wheels go over a bump or in a low spot. I took the gauge wheels off my rear mount finish mower, brackets off my old mm finish mower, and a couple of pieces of angle iron and mounted them on the back of the snowblower. The height is adjustable by moving the spacers up or down just like they were on the mower. I think I will also be able to control the height somewhat by adjusting the top link. Now I am waiting on more snow to try this out. Pictures are included.

That should work to keep it out of the gravel!! However, make wure you pick it up before backing up, as the wheels will not be able to pivot like they would on the MMM, because it looks too close to me. Although, the work is not done in reverse with a snow blower is it?

I have often wondered about some small wheels at the fron and back on a snow blower. Just enough to keep it from scraping up dirt, gravel, etc.

I have castor wheels on mine that originally came from a sweeper. They are used when the ground is not yet covered by a thin sheet of frozen ice or snow. Once you have a solid frozen cover, the wheels can be raised, and only the skid shoes are used. Never had a problem with snow buildup. One thing to watch, if you have wallows in your snow clearing area, the wheels will exaggerate the wallow with each pass. By the time the winter ends, you will think you're on a roller coaster. The further the wheels are from the leading edge on the blower, the worse the effect will be.

My wheels can be height adjusted hydraulically.
Avoids blowing ground and gravel until everything is frozen solid.

Very nice Dave. I believe I saw this on your original build thread. We lived around Williamstown many moons ago (aka 1975) and rented the house on the old Ross farm. Really loved that place, was there for about 6 months and then moved to Martintown, a place where the old cheese factory used to be. That got broken down and buried while we owned the property, but not before rescuing a load of beautiful tongued and grooved lumber from it.

While only slightly more expensive - an alternative is a hydraulic top link - I tilt my blower back just the right amount at the start of the season and can easily adjust as I blow to accommodate any dips etc and I can also tip the other way later in the season. And of course it's something I use for other attachments.
Now those castor wheels are something I keep thinking about for my front snow blade...
