The key is prep. Make sure that all of the rocks that are bigger than a golf ball are 5' from the edges of the drive and get all of the sticks picked up before the snow starts flying.

Remember the other precautionary measure is to let the first few inches of snow in the season accumulate and pack down with the car tires. This will give you a little buffer between the rocks and snowblower.
Here is a side view drawing of a limited slip friction disc clutch.
You can attach it to your present shaft after measuring
to cut the shaft or buy a complete unit from a lot of different suppliers.

line of snow blowers you have I believe.
