I stuck #2 shear pins in after listening to everyone's advice here.

When I did it, I noticed that one of the shoes had worked it's way up (so it wasn't lifting
the blower at all). I fixed that and that helped tremendously.

Only other problem now is that the shear bolt holes on the right auger as you're facing the blower
do not line up for some reason. Left hand bolt holes line up fine, and there does not seem to be
any play in the right hand spindle/shaft. I ran it up and down the driveway to see if it would shift
at all, but it didn't. I know there was a shear bolt in there when I tool delivery, so I know that it
must have lined up okay at some point.

Have to call the dealer today. Will have to blow out the driveway tonight with have the auger
working, other half only plowing. Had about 4" from that Nor'easter as of this am, they say another
six inches or so today.

Try rotating the right hand auger by hand 180 degrees (half a turn) while preventing its drive shaft from moving. That might re-align the shearpin holes.

snowman,
Like Pks said turn the beater slowly, but maybe a flash light etc.. shining from the back side will show the hole better to line up.

The hole may just be plug w/dirt etc..and a small rod etc.. w/little pressure as you turn the beater should help locating the plus clean the hole..

So far 4"of snow up here.

Dealer came out to the house to fix the mis-alignment of the augar shaft while I was at work.

When I talked to him on the telephone, he said that you have to use an "alignment tool" to
get the actual drive shaft back into alignment with the shear bolt hole.

I could see half of the shear bolt hole through the auger, but couldn't move it far enough over
to get the whole hole.

Works fines now, which is good. Had a foot of snow to move last night and it worked great.

The wire guard in the chute on the blower kept clogging up with snow, so I pulled the wire back a bit.
It was acting like a mesh guard.

Did the driveway again this morning to get rid of the drifting; took only about 20 minutes for the
300' driveway.

Probably have another 6"-8" by the end of todaym which is when this storm is supposed to die off.

snowman,
Glad to read your up running 100% once again.

I think you find the wire guard to slow down hard objects from the blower..ice,rocks,dog goodies, toys etc..

If you really want to try your blower out come on up here, for there 16" of snow plus the snow difts and more on the way.

Be careful and enjoy.

Snowman,

It's very possible that the alignment tool your dealer refered to is just a long drift punch. I suspect he puts the punch into the hole and wiggles the thing until the holes line up.

P.S. We in Ann Arbor, Michigan only got an inch. booo :-(

You could try a slip clutch on the drive shaft. Most are made for the 540 PTO shaft (higher torque, lower RPM), but it might be possible to adjust one to work on the higher speed front shaft for your blower.

I've got a 3PH 540 PTO blower on my 2910 and I've blown out a several shear bolts. The first time I didn't have any grade 2 bolts so I used a grade 5. Next time I picked up something I blew out the drive chain. Now I keep a supply of grade 2 bolts on hand. I may convert to a clutch over the summer.
