Snow pusher mounted on tractor?

Can something like a M7040 cab tractor handle an 8' pusher in Colorado powder? Seem to be plenty of used ones available coming from skid operators. Need something to clean snow from dirt/gravel. Rarely ever concrete unless I start doing the local neighborhood. The back scraper attachments look handy for those tiny driveways.

Anyone using one?

I have a 7' hydraulic angle blade on the front of my L3400 for pushing snow and it works just fine. I can't help but think that an 8' blade on your M7040 would be a good match. The 7' blade is a bit wide for the L3400 but when the blade is angled as far as it will go the rear tires are still in the cleared out snow path. Maybe a plow a bit wider might be a better choice? Hopefully someone here with a tractor close to yours can give you better advice?

Any chance you could take a few pictures of your mounting system for the L3400? I am just starting to put together a pusher/plow and would like a few different ideas before I start welding things together.

I don't see why not. Are you looking at a SSQA or one that the bucket lip slides into? Either way, I would be looking at tire chains for sure. Our PA snow gets very wet and very heavy so my experience doesn't translate well to dry fluffy snow well.

SSQA. The powder out here is typically very light. My concern was more about the width of the blade and torque on the loader arms. 8' seems pretty wide applying forces at the edge turning or if i bump something etc. Wasn't sure if it might be a bit much for that loader. Dont seem to see many 6' snow pushers available. Regular blades tear up dirt/gravel too much.

On your machine, M7040,, you'll have no problems with a 8 foot front blade.

Your M7040 should have no problem with an 8' pusher. I have a 7'6" pusher for my tractor that I use on a gravel driveway. The only problem I have found is when that pusher blade fills up with snow you will lose traction and spin the tires. You need as much weight and traction as possible. I have loaded my rear tires, chains on all 4, plus either an 850 lb. or a 1200 lb. rear ballast if needed.

Your right, George, loaded rear's are a must, weight is your friend in snow.

YUp, as are tire chains, front and rear if possible! Trying to push an 8' box in a turn would be a joke without the front tires being chained.

I have a 9' HLA blade, which covers my 90" track when fully angled. (If you go with a plow, a good rule of thumb is 18" wider than your width.) I plow a 1/4 mile driveway so a snow pusher is not what I would own, pushers are best for parking lots where you need to move snow greater distances. Plus you can't move back piles like you can with a blade.

Maintaining traction is easier with a plow versus a pusher because the snow weight is more constant with a plow. Weight is continually building with a pusher and you will need chains on your tires if you elect to go that route.

I run R1 tires no chains or loaded tires with my box blade on the rear. Box blade works great to pull snow away from garage doors etc and adds ballast. In essence, it's an 8' "pusher" that I'm pulling, it's the best of both worlds. (There's a reason you see so many pushers for sale! )

I push a 6' pusher with my Ex3200 and it will fill the box and push snow 4-5 feet in front of it if I have traction available. Amazingly more useful than box blade even because stacking snow is as high as the blade can reach. With a full box I can stack snow higher than I can with a bucket even, its just the way the box contains and then lets the snow fall out once it reaches an open spot to do so. Love mine.

I run an 8 foot v-plow on an MX5100, but it does have a trip-edge and 5 degrees float in both axis. Does the snow pusher have any type of trip or release mechanism? Sure helps when you hit a rock on the outer end of your blade.

I have a 8' snow plow and a 7ft.rear blade on my L4240 HStC and both work well.A snow pusher would be of little use to me,I do 2 miles of woods roads and drives.As stated the only place we see pushers is in large parking lots on huge equipment.

Snow pusher does not have à trip device. But the blade height is adjustable. I have mine set about 1/2" higher than the side skid plates.

Light powder or not. Does the snow melt between storms or a accumulate ? Some people try to push snow for a while around here. They either give up , carry numerous bucks of snow in a loader bucket or buy a snowblower.
The blower doesn't form a ridge along the edge of the roadway to make drifting worse. The blower gets rid of the snow into a low mound down wind of the roadway.
