Hello,

Today I purchased a 6 1/2' Curtis snow plow from a friend that no longer used it. It has power angle and he gave me the valve and hoses that he had on his tractor. I believe everything I need was included but the ATI quick attach plate that I am going to order this week. I am not 100% positive how to hook up the hydraulics so I could use some help with that please. The valve he gave me has two long hoses that go to the plow I am sure. Then there is a shorter hose that goes from the "in" to the "out" on the valve. I think he may have just took it off the tractor and reconnected to the valve to keep dirt out. I am not positive where to hook the "in" and "out" to on the tractor.

I have included pictures so you all can see what I got.

The tractor is a B3030HST with the LA403 loader. Thanks for any help.

No worries-

The quick coupler hoses have color coded
tie wraps to make sure they do not get
cross connected on the tractor.

It appears that you simply have a pair of
single acting cylinders with one hose to the
base of the cylinder.

Hooking up will be simply a matter of deciding
if you want to pull back and go left with the
plow or push forward to go right with the plow.

A few questions before I can help...

1. Does this new extra valve have a port labeled PB? Or is it only the IN and OUT ports?

2. Do you plan to permanently mount this valve, or only use it when the plow is attached?

Some answers to your questions:
The valve he gave me has two long hoses that go to the plow I am sure.
Correct. That "bulkhead" with the QD's on it is supposed to be mounted up front on the loader cross tube. The plow hose will plug into those QD's.
Then there is a shorter hose that goes from the "in" to the "out" on the valve. I think he may have just took it off the tractor and reconnected to the valve to keep dirt out.
I agree, they are just plugged together to keep them clean.

Since he had QD's on the IN/OUT ports, I suspect he just "plugged" the valve in when he needed it. You will have to see how they match up to your machine, but basically the OUT of your FEL valve would go to the IN of the new valve, and the OUT of the new valve would plug to the hose that was on the FEL valve. You are putting this valve in "series".

Thanks for the replies and help and to answer your questions.

1- It only has In and Out on the valve. The valve is a Cross BAA maybe and the two smaller ports are labeled A and B.

2- I do plan to mount it to the tractor.

Some up close pictures of the valve will be helpful, Look carefully for a port (it may be blocked off) that is labeled PB (power beyond). Online info for Cross valve's is scarce, but it does say for the BA series PB is available-Look HERE.

The "proper" way to do this is with a PB capable valve. You will see a port on your FEL valve marked PB, that would connect to the IN of the new valve, the PB of the new valve would get connected to hose you removed from the FEL valve, and the OUT of the new valve can be Tee'd to the existing OUT line on the FEL valve.

But there are a few options...Do a search for "power beyond" in the hydraulics forums for hours of reading!

Kenny,

Thanks for your help and effort. Sorry I havent gotten back to you sooner but it has been a few crazy days at work. I have added some better pictures of the valve for you to see. There is one big port blocked off that has "BYD" marked above it. Could that be the port I am looking for. I will do a search on the forum and do some reading and hopefully shed some light for me. I just have never fulled with hydraulics before but not afraid to get my hands dirty and learn. I ordered the quick attach plate from Messicks and some maintance items I needed for the tractor.

Unless my eyes are failing me, you already have a quick attach plate attached. Maybe some else can look at the photos and advise if they also see the quick attach plate.

I believe what the phot shows is the actual mating plate on the plow-he needs to order the mating half that replaces the bucket and attaches to the loader arms and tilt cylinder.;)

YES! The port marked BYD is what I wanted to see. That is the same as the PB port I was referring to before (I should have mentioned that they can be marked that also)

Again, the "proper" way to hook this up will require the special "plug" that goes in that port to make this a "power beyond" type valve.

Here is the sequence:

PB from the FEL valve to the IN of the new one
PB of the new valve to hose you removed from the FEL valve's PB port
OUT of the new valve can be Tee'd to the same OUT line from the FEL valve.

Surplus Center may sell the PB plug if you call them, in the mean time you can work on getting the valve mounted, then work out the hose lengths.

Thanks again Kenny. You are the man when it comes to hydraulics. I have been reading since posting earlier and every hydraulic post you have replied and helped someone out. So when I call Surplus Center I need to ask them for this PB plug that will fit into the BYD port of my new valve. I will have to pull that plug and see what size the threads are.

thanks again
