At the beginning of this year we got 48" of snow in 24hrs and it was a surreal time in our area. I was lucky that I had just purchased and installed ice chains on all 4 tires and had the rear facing snow blower on at the time. Otherwise I would have been screwed, like a lot of my neighbors. My next door neighbors have a dozer, excavator, tractor and skidsteer and they couldn't deal with the snow. The dozer was in a back field and they couldn't get to it, the skidsteer didn't have chains and was useless, the tractor had "H" pattern chains and they were useless. I ended up clearing their driveway going uphill while blowing snow. They were amazed at where my tractor would go and immediately ordered a set of euro ice chains for the their tractor. You should have seen the smile on the neighbors face when she first pulled her tractor out of the barn with the new chains installed. Then she put it to work and could not believe the difference those chains made.

They are expensive but I am very glad I spent the money. Not saying everyone should have them or needs them but for my conditions it was one of the best purchases I have made for the tractor.

Your story along with the ending statement says it all. I would/could not be w/o euro type chains here.

Every year our driveway ices up and it's steep. Before last winter I decided to get a bunch of sand/salt mixture and a spreader, so I could at least spread some on the bad parts and make the driveway a little safer. That worked OK and was a slow process but I discovered something that worked better. I would just run the tractor up and down the driveway, in the wheel paths and the ice chains would chew up the ice, leaving a very rough texture that was better to drive on, than when it was sanded. Now I have a bunch of sand and a spreader that I will probably never use again. As an added advantage, it is way faster to drive up and down the driveway than it is to go slowly spreading the sand mixture.

I do the same thing. Our road is way to long to sand. I find ice chips from running the chains on hard ice work just like sand. And in the spring when there are daily freeze thaw cycles I run up and down the road just before it refreezes and tries to slick over. The pock marks gives enough texture to drive on.

Looks good. Nice fab skills. Ive been blowing snow driving forewords for 9 years now, and will never do it going backwards again ..... i hope. My neck was really getting messed up after 14 years of blowing snow backwards, 6 hours a day.

That looks like a farmking snowblower on your build. Looks like my old 60” unit i had on ny old jd870.

Mines a 45 hp tractor so the rear powerpack works great, but sometimes i think a 75 hp would have been better. But the fuel use would have nearly doubled doing that. Sometimes im just a bit underpowered when trying to move the plowed berms when working on neighbors driveways and on main roads when im clearing drifts.

Yup, Farm King 660. Have the seven ft yet just in case things go for crap. Used it today again for about an hr, so far so good.

Final bits coming together. Easiest seemed to be limit chains. The cylinder pins were not long enough so had to make new ones. Highly doubt the little bolts in the ends would hold the cylinders. New pins have one inch stubs. More of a visual indicator as the hydraulics can torque up the front end.

46 degrees F here right now... can wait to See how my 74" Normand Inverted performs on my MX6060cab... I have never had a cab... Always did my snowblowing with an open station and ski goggles!

One of the reasons I prefer to keep the fel on. Got two bags of peas, thousand lbs each for deer feed. Have to get it when the seed guy has it. I get him to do two bags as one full one is too much for my loader.
