I recently sewed several acres of grass seed using my 8N. The bed was fairly smooth, but there were some clods that didn't roll out because the ground was so dry. I imagine there will be some bumpy areas created in one way or another (erosion/tire rutting/animal burrows, etc) even if I get it rolled smooth now.

Question is- long term, what is the best way to smooth out bumps that may be created? I've heard aerating may work? Would aerating, then rolling after a good rain be the best way to knock down bumps in the yard?? What about verticutting or harrowing lightly?

clods, what a pain. with that big an area it would be a lot of work to rake it out perfectly. As for knocking down the high spots, with lumps that will break down in time or grow new shoots it will be an ongoing hassle. I would like to know an easy cure too.

The best and easiest way to level things out is too start from scatch with cultivation. Once the grass is growing you may be able to shave some of the bumps off but level/smooth will never be acheived.
