Ok, finaly have some preliminary data on mpg on that 99 7.3 PSD F350 DRW I have. 4.1 rears, etc.

13.5 MPG city is what it's turning so far.

havn't been able to do a highway test long enough to do a miles/gallons used calc.

keep trying to take it on the trips to the coast witht he wife, but she likes to take her yukon... sooo.. :)

I guess 13.5 ain't bad... surely ain't any worse then the dodge 1500 gasser with 5.9l and 3.73 rears it replaced. In fact.. it's as good or .5mpg better unloaded anyway. I imagine loaded it's WAY better as that dodge dropped from about 13 unloaded to .. well.. something way lower when loaded to only 6k or so.. have to think the 350 will not be hit as hard mileage wise.. but again.. havn't tested that either.. though do know it feels/handles great with a pallate of sod and 800# of bagged sand in the long bed.. :)

Thats low, but then again you have 4.1 rear, and DRW. I get 16 to 18 with mine city, and if I play with my speed alittle I get over 20 on the highway. But then again, mine is not stock...

you have a SRW 3.73? any tuning? like an economy or economy tow tuning?

havn't been abe to have this one on th highway enough to get a read on it. and the city driving i'm doing is the worst. stoplamps every block, and 4 mile round trips.. i figure at 13.5 on that setup I'm actually doing good.. :)

Soundguy,
That's real close to what my 03 with a 7.3 is getting...
I average between 14 to 15 driving back and forth to work...
It is a 17 mile one way commute that takes 30 minutes...
I am running an 80 HP race program but I keep my foot out of it...
I don't think that is too bad for a dually 4x4 crew with 4.10 rears...
Towing my 9K fifth wheel I average 10 to 11 depending on how hard I run...
I don't mind the mileage at all...
It is a work truck...
And it's paid for...

Here is what I got. I just purchased it used from its 1st owner who customer ordered. This is the write up of what he gave me, its just easy to copy and paste. Like I said, you have 4.1 and DRW... So you are probably in the right area for what you should get. And I would be very happy with it.

I was told on highway to go 62-65 mph for the best MPG. Buy the older owner and a few others who have same rigs.

sounds alot like my 99 F450, it was all tricked out by it's prev owner.. also a 1-owner vehicle... too numerous to mention.. like yours, lotsa toys.. big aluminum scoop.. etc..

custom hauling bed gn/5th wheel, dual plugs bed and bumper for 7pin, plus 4 pin..3 dp tool boxes, 70g transfer tech auto xfer tank, DOT approved, 4.88 rear, with upgraded rear end.. pillar gauge set.. etc.

custom jobs like that.. would have hated to see what they cost new... :(

I seem to get 12-14 mpg no matter what I'm doing in the gas F350, srw. I'm sure it would drop towing but I never tow enough on a whole tank to find out.

i either tow a lil or whole lot. IE.. a 8m trip of 7k or a 2000m trip of 12k.. etc. :)

On my 450 I've found that speed makes more of a difference on fuel economy than does weight. if I keep it 72 or under I can do 9 fully loaded.. 10 not loaded / no trailer.. :) hit 75-78 and it nearly HALVES.. 4.88 rear.. strong, but slow!

2003 F350 Crew Cab, 7.3L, auto, long box, DRW, 4:10 limited slip rear axle. All around average about 15 mpg when empty. Best ever highway mpg was 19.9.
Towing 10-14k trailer avg. about 10 mpg. Best ever towing my 5th wheel camper was 13 mpg. (50 mph on the Natchez Trace)

1997 F250 Crew Cab, 7.3L, auto short box, SRW, 4:10 limited slip rear axle. All around average about 17 mpg when empty. Best ever highway, about 21 mpg.
Towing big, tall, heavy trailers: about the same as the dually.

The 7.3 gets its best fuel economy if the engine is turning less than 2000 rpm. (that's about 62 mph on my trucks)
