That is pretty true, especially in rural areas. The DeLorme maps work for me.
I'm new to GPS but got sent over hill and dale today when a map would have made life a lot easier. Sometimes intuition is better than GPS.

Does anyone know how that system was even put together? Not the positioning but the route information, lane information and so forth. I have been sent through **** on earth (downtown kitchener ont) by GPS, whereas any non masocist would have driven around it.

Our complete Telecom Dispatching System is an App on my Samsung as well as other Company apps that make my job a whole lot easier. I can do a direct chat with programmers, assignment and dispatch. As well as a wifi analyzer app and a whole lot more. I can see the entire order on my phone and not even break out my computer. It's nice

Until service drops which happens on a regular basis - like in the Tehachapi Mountains in California this spring or the Black Hills of South Dakota this fall. the problem with technology is that you always need a backup.

With Google Maps, you can download an area of a map to your device and it will route you even when you don't have signal.
No, you won't get traffic updates, but if you don't have cell service, traffic is not likely to be a problem.
I keep a NY state mapbook as well as a US/Canada road atlas in each car. They are older, but they are there in case we need them.

I don't know... the Samsung Galaxy Note 7s were catching fire pretty easily, to the point that they were banned from airplanes.

I used to drive for UPS and then Airborne Express and I would buy a new Thomas Guide map every year, and in every one of their maps I would find mistakes. My map on my phone is more accurate, faster and able to provide me step by step directions to places I've never been before. Even more amazing was using it to get around Venice Italy and all the little alley ways!!!
