What is the smallest size property a B2710 or B2910 shud be used on for finish mowing. And does a Belly versus 3PH mower limit how small the property can be before it becomes bettter with a garden tractor????

Mickey, that's a tough question. I think it might depend on what other uses you have for the tractor. If you're doing nothing but finish mowing, there are certainly mowers on the market (including Kubota) that would be better for the job. I use a B2710 with 3-point finish mower on two and half to three acres, but I have 10 acres and then use the tractor and other implements on some friends' and relatives' places, too.

I would imagine as long as you can turn the thing around without crossing onto the neighbors property or the street, it is probably big enough/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif!

MickeyJ, let me guess...you love the B2710/B2910 and you need to justify it to yourself/others? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I have 9 acres of which 3 is maintained (the other 6 are in a valley with no access (currently)). I have a B2910 I use for mowing, plowing, hauling, etc. I certainly could have got by with something much smaller, but I love the B2910. Since living in the country, I've gone through 3 small "tractors"...a Montgomery Ward, a JD 260, and a JD 320, all too small or limiting. My long term dream is to have 80+ acres and wanted a tractor I could "grow into" if needed. Anyway, the B2910 is certainly not too big in my situation/yard conditions. As others have mentioned, take a look at what else you are going to use the tractor for, what your conditions are like, and what you want. (then go out and buy the B2910 /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif)

Mickey,

That's about as subjective a question as we get around here. Everybody has their own "threshold". We are on 40 acres, and use a B7500 for it. A B2710 or B2910 would have been "nice", but there are a couple of places where either of those machines would have been too big. I had just a couple inches of clearance as I mowed out around the water tanks. The extra 10 or 12 inches length of either of those two machines would mean "too big". Your mileage will always vary.

However, if I were "just" doing mowing, even the B7500 might be overkill.

mickey: i have 9 acres , i have a garden tractor to do the small stuff, but use the 2400 to do do larger jobs, moving snow, cutting the large fields, moving dirt, etc. would be easier to help if we had a better idea of what u want to do, and how large your property is. frank

Just finished cutting the lawn with my 2910. This where I find purchasing a 2910 has paid off. It took less than 1 ½ hours to complete cutting a little over 2 acres of lawn. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gifHad to slow down some because we have had so much rain the last couple of days. I could not get out and cut it when it should have been done.
My old previous tractor was a 7100 HST. With a 48" mower. It would take over three hours to complete the same area./w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif
When I first bought the 2910 thought I may have gotten too big a tractor. Finally settled down and got chainsaw and tree trimmer out. Kept whittling away at tree limbs and shrubs until I could get around without hanging up on the ROP or FEL frame. This was trimming that was probably over due. This spring things look better than they ever have./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
You may have landscaping that will not allow a 72" mower to pass. If that is not a consideration and your time is limited. The 2710 or 2910 would be a good choice.

Below is a copy of Carver Tractor site tips on sizing a tractor and attachements.

Limited time, limited daylight, you'll need enough hp to match implements size to meet the time line of "most do" duties. Examples: mowing, snow removal, feeding, irrigating, watering and material handling.

Whether it's work or hobby, it usually means working a dawn and dusk. Therefore extra lights are needed and very desirable when working alone and after-hours. Especially with a loader, the top mounted lights are able to shine over the top of bucket.

Adjustable work lights are really nice when checking fence lines as you can adjust the work lights to the sides.

For the same reasons a canopy becomes a very good friend on the hottest and wettest days. A fender mounted radio becomes a great friend as well.

The wider the implement, the more area you cover in a given time. This is the match with your timeline and tractor hp. Implement are basically classed in three sizes 4', 5' and 6.'
The general "rule of thumb" is as follows:

4' with tractors up to 30 hp
5' .............................. 30-37 hp
6' .............................. 40 hp +

There are plenty of exceptions Example: Finishing mowers
5' .......up to 22 hp
6' .......... 22-34 hp
7' .......... 34 hp+
And many more.
