Hi,

Currently I have a BX and a medium sized trailer, I also have a bad back.

I have been thinking of getting a smaller trailer (4x6) ish that is road capeable but still able to dump. I will be pulling it with a honda pilot thats rated at 3500lb.

The smallest dump trailers are still a litle too big they weigh around 1350 starting and towing that loaded with my BX around the field will suck.

I have been looking at small tilt trailers but it looks like for mulch, gravel etc it will be hard to tilt them to get the stuff off.

On the plus side the place I get the mulch, rock, and get rid of yard waste is only a couple of miles from my house off a county highway so its an easy trip back and forth.

Loading/unloading on my property isnt much of an issue, I just use the FEL now, its the dumping of the crap at the compost site thats a pain in my back.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

If you are set on doing this why not get a trailer custom built with the capability to dump using your tractors hydraulics?

The thing about trailers isn't that they actually rust any faster than anything else but they do seem to. I think it is because they sit outside and we only use them from time to time. The answer is aluminum$$$$$ or galvanized. Aluminum will help with your load capacity too because they are a little lighter. Are you sure that your tractor will fit on a 4 foot trailer? The smallest mower deck I have is 48" and will just barely fit inside 5 foot. Worthington makes aluminum trailers but you won't like the price and the less expensive ones have wood floors so the rot will be coming for you.

I have found over the years I am getting smarter and lazier so my solution to getting stuff out of the trailer is lay a tarp down first and just pull the tarp out to unload or at least it makes the load slide easier.

about 14 years ago I bought a tilt boat trailer, it was apprx 15 ft x 5.5 wide
with fenders and 12" wheels, my son need something small to haul his dirt bike with his small suv,
so I cut 4 ft from the tongue leaving it 11 ft with tongue, I then built a 4 x8 bed platform with 20" high rails and weld in some tiedown hooks,
back to it being a tilt.... the trailer was factory built with a spring loaded pin to pull and would release so that one could simply backup at a lakeside and launch the boat without having use a boat ramp......
My son no longer uses the trailer and now tires are dryrotted /flat,
I plan some day to put a 3ft. side body and start using it again around the property as a dump trailer  although it will still be hwy legal,

How do you get the tarp out from under the load after you pull the tarp off the trailer .

ya know.. I recently took a chance and bought me one of these:
Welcome to Loadhandler.com
$100..
and on the website I saw they used it ona trailer...

Mine works really good.....
the only issue I have is the material falling between the tailgate and the bed..
But a custom cut piece of wood solved that....

maybe that will help....
