Slip clutch

I have a Bush Hog tiller model RTS50 which does not have a slip clutch. I contacted the dealer to see about putting a slip clutch on the drive line as I broke a tine hitting a rock. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif In New England we specialize in rock production. At first the dealer thought the cost would be about $100. Now Bush Hog is telling them I need a new drive line with the slip clutch as part of the drive line at a cost of $250. Can a generic slip clutch be added to a drive line? Does anyone have any cost effective suggestions on slip clutches? Thanks for any help on this. Mike

Not sure on your particular model of bush hog, but on all of the others I have seen/dealt with you can add the slip clutch into the drive line. The slip clutch does add about 6 inches or so to the drive line length, so in a worst case scenario you might have to cut 6 inches or so out of the driveline to compensate if your slip joint in your drive line would bottom out with the slip clutch installed.

Agri-Supply has slip clutches for $62.49 (part # 32323). Several TBN'ers have used them. You will probably have to cut the PTO shaft shorter. Do a search on TBN for the instructions.

The Pto shaft for my brush cutter is too short because of the quick hitch. If the slip clutch adds 6 inches it will be just right. Does anyone have an actual measurement from bolt hole to bolt hole on this clutch?

Thanks Mad. I just ordered the part from Agrisupply. On another note I have yet to paint the dethatcher due to the cold weather. Once the temps get up to 50 I will get that done and send you a picture of your creation. Thanks again for a job well done. Mike
