Thats basically the way a dedicated skidder works (one of several different methods--ours used a heavy duty winch). A dedicated skidder is larger and heavier, but that unit should still haul the firewood in without a problem.

Here's a pic of my bud's skidder clearing off the last of the pine on my lot this winter for my new garden space. It's had the the nickname of "Little Jimmy" for years. Its an old TREE FARMER that the wife's gramps had bought new in the early 70's. A close friend of mine owns it now. (3rd owner)

Yep, that's pretty much what ours looked like. Big cable out the back with a bunch of smaller cables for hooking the logs onto. Grab 'em, yank 'em up and go. Those bad boys can haul a load. Ours was a Deere, but I don't recall the model. Grapple skidders (like the skidpro setup) are also available. And then they have what we called the "Iron Mule", (may have been a brand name). That was basically a skidder but the back was a trailer and you had a log loader to pick the bolts (logs) up with and plop them on the trailer. Then off you went to the dock and stack em.

Awesome equipment for sure. /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif On my last trip thru I saw a Deere skidder mounted with a backhoe. Maybe if it's still there I can get a pic next time around.

As long as you can get to the logs that is a great attachment. Make sure you've got alot of weight in the front end of the tractor if your going to be hauling logs with any size though. Has anyone used one of these on a compact? I'm curious to know how well it worked for them.

One thing I do like the feature that you can lengthen the boom if you can't get to the other side of the stump. Another nice feature is that you don't have to get off the tractor to hook the log up just grab and go. But for now I'll stick with my skidding winch. Gives me the ability to get logs out from places I can't get the tractor. That way I can stay on the trail, less chance of getting stuck./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Yea, the winch can't be beat in most situations around here. Recently a neighbor higher up on the road came down to see me. He had a 3710 with a Farmi winch.

He had my friend and "Little Jimmy" clear the trees off the property across the road from me to create a house site for his son. His land is steep and he wanted to take all my stumps, rocks etc. to use for fill. OK with me./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
