Has anyone built a tree saw for a skid steer? My search isn't coming up with anything. What did you use for a blade? Any links to threads I couldn't find would be appreciated.

I was thinking more along the lines of a tree shear for my backhoe. I wouldn't want to be eating wood chips with a branch about to fall directly overhead. Not much reach on a SS. The BH is a little more articulated so I can sit further away from falling branches.

The ones I’ve seen commercially had a push bar on top to guide the tree away

I'm about to order one of these.

Looks like a good product and have a several places to try on. Look forward to your review.

Trying to make something similar. Like many had the idea for something similar before someone made one availability.
Ordered the hydraulic parts on surplus center. Most of the steel I have but somewhat heavier. Some parts cut. Receiver hitch reinforced and welded to grapple. Seems other projects crowd for time so progress is slow. I’m sure Limbsaw has worked out many of the problems I have yet to encounter.
Can see where a backhoe mount or just using the outriggers for a FEL mount would help position a cut.

Cuts good . Do not like the mounting on the side of the bucket . Visibility of the saw looks bad . The clearance between tree and machine is good . Kevin .

What kind of saw action are you looking for? I'm in the process of doing a tractor/skidsteer saw with flat horizontal blades. Commercial ones are expensive. See pics of a sawfish. Vids on you tube show a fairly easy build.

How thick are you hoping to cut? I’d figure that a skid steer with a tree puller can pull out sizable trees in the 6-8” range. Anything bigger would simply be felled.

I have a tree puller. I have a 90xt and you start getting close to 8” trees and it takes some time. We have a large duck lake that’s needing some attention and I thought the tree saw would be quicker. Do the manual sawfish style work well or would I be wishing I had bought a powered saw?

What are you using for a blade?
