Tractor Sizing Size does matter

Good Afternoon!

I need some advice....I'm in Nevada and bought a 100 acre farm in Missouri. Its in fescue seed production on small rolling hills.

I need a tractor that will be fast at bush-hogging, drilling seed, along with some front loader work.

Does anyone have an idea to what size JD tractor I will be needing?

Hi Dan, welcome,

The best thing to do is go to the Deere site and size a tractor for how much work you want to do and how fast. You're probably looking at a 4x20 or higher series minimum.

Welcome to TBN, Dan. How many acres are in fescue seed production? How many acres are currently or will be devoted to another crop or added production?

If you are working or planning to work more than 50 acres -- I'd jump right over the 4x20 series and look at the 5000 series at a minimum.

If you're planning to work on row-crops, too -- the 6000 series might not be out of reach, either.

I don't know "beans" about raising fescue. (pun intended) But, I think that Rob and AKfish are giving good advice. You need to buy enough tractor. I just bought a bought a 5085M to use on my place. I didn't consider anything smaller. I produce grass hay on 60 acres. The new tractor will be tasked with the JD 457 round baler and the 14' tandem disc.
