I'm not getting any younger and with some arthritis in my hands, I made up this tool for opening hydraulic couplers from a Vice Grip welding clamp:

It took about 10 minutes with a grinder to open the jaws to fit my 1 3/8" Pioneer couplers.

I'm sure this isn't anything new here but since the tool is on sale at Harbor Freight for $10 thru 8/19, I thought I'd post it again.

They would make things better for sure. Nothing like trying to deal with an oily coupler. Those would be good to have around
Good idea.

I might try that myself

Great idea. I'll bet it was a HF grinder too!

I used my 6" cordless DeWalt grinder. It took a full battery to do the job. It would have taken longer but the Chinese aren't that good at hardening their tool steel.

Me too, I want one too!
Those hydraulic couplings are a bit diabolical, you need vise-grip hands.
Or vice-grips.

Better hurry, the $9.95 sale ends 8/19.

The regular price is only $12.95 though so it's no big deal. :)

Sorry, I thought you lived in Portugal Vermont. ;)

Seriously though, it's a standard tool and may be available somewhere locally.

It's available here on Amazon.com. Perhaps international shipping can be arranged.

I know where to get them; they won't be Irwin ones.
I had a big collection of genuine made in USA Irwin vice grips...
Had...
Oh well.
I'll buy some discount store ones for this.

Posting things into here from outside the EU doesn't work well. Things get stuck in customs for a long time, and then the taxes are around 50%, even the shipping cost is taxed.

They seem to be a domestic Portuguese transport company. So no, I haven't tried them.
For this sort of thing I'll use cheapo grips from an area DIY store, ebay Spain, or Amazon.

For $9.99 I am not going to destroy my heavy duty Irwin Vise Grip welding clamp pliers.
On Thursday (19th) or earlier, I'll stop by HF and pick up a cheap set so I can either modify or destroy them, and then loose them in the bushes.
I'll spray them with Day-Glo ..... maybe that will help!
