For years I had bought CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Lubricant spray for a variety of uses. Sprayed on, it left a slick surface, but not appearing wet. Lately I haven't found it at my usual locations and online it seems to be around $21 online for an 11oz can (used to be about $4-5). I just bought a couple cans of Blaster Silicone Lubricant and it's not anywhere like the CRC I was used to. The Blaster when sprayed to a surface leaves a wet film and has a oil type odor similar to WD40. I had seen some reviews on Amazon saying the Blaster Silicone spray had petroleum distillates in its mixture, so I looked up the MSDS sheet on it and found it is a formulation of Petroleum distillates hydrotreated light, Alkanes, C9-11-iso- (a paraffin compound I think), and Carbon dioxide. No mention of silicone in the Blaster mixture. CRC and a few others I have subsequently looked at have poly dimethylsiloxane which I believe is the silicone component. I had been using the CRC on rubber and some plastics, but not sure a supposedly silicone spray with petroleum contents would be safe, particularly on rubber such as vehicle door and window seals. Do manufacturers have to list all chemicals in their products on an MSDS document or can they omit some?
