siding over wood question

Once again, on my "new" house.

House has "T-11" wood board for the exterior. Wood is painted and looks "nice", but... sooner or later I'm probably going to have some sort of siding put over it (I can already see where I may need to start painting in some spots, and I new this would happen "sooner or later" when I bought the house). And this will be getting old very quick after a year or two.

What I'm curious about is what you do with the current wood in place if you "side" over it.

Will I end up taking the wood off and place an insulation in it's place, or do you just "side over it".

The reason I was wondering was due to all the different types of "bugs" (including termites and "boring bees").

Do you treat the wood (if it stays) befroe you "side" over it?

Just trying to prepare myself for what inevetably (sp?) will have to be done.

The only people I've know who added siding simply put it over the wood. I've seen that done with aluminum, steel, and vinyl siding, so I assume? that's the normal way. But since I haven't ever done it myself, I don't know whether that's the right way or not.

My house was sided over. Just put the foam barrier up then the siding. Siding is the #1 scam in the world for prices. It is unreal on the prices people get. If you have the time, you can buy the materials for dirt...

The foam board is applied to provided a flat surface over the existing wood clapboards. Since the poster has T1-11 siding, then the vinyl can be applied right over it.

I did it myself at our old house. I received a couple of estimates beforehand in the $8,000 to 9,000 range. It took all summer, but I had $2000 into all of the materials, including trimming aluminum around the windows (I borrowed a brake). I bought a discontinued color too, and saved a few more dollars a square!
