In my case w/the L&G tractor (WheelHorse) and mid mounted SBM, I'm using an approx 5" length of chain to attach the bar to the cylinder ram and I can get about 35 degree down angle and a full 90 degree up angle. The throw on the cylinder is such that once the SBM's bar is on level land and resting on it's depth shoe, it'll extend out a couple more inches, this and the slack in the length of chain allows the bar to ride over rises and drop with the terrain plus give it the down angle past level. The road bank I mow is an approx 45 - 50 degree up angle and the pond bank is an approx 20 degree down angle at points.
I don't know if this type of setup would work w/a larger 3ph mounted SBM and I'd imagine there would be alot of trial and error in getting a cylinder w/enough throw but one "may" be able to get some hydraulic functionality, except in the extreme angles. Course it may not be enough for the OP's need.
My interest in this thread is based upon possibly adding a SBM to my BX23 as parts for the SMB I'm currently useing are very few and far inbetween. And the SBM is definitely the tool for the job of mowing banks
Also I incorrectly indicated the SBM was a 5' when it's a 50". Sorry for any confusion.
