I hay using on old school 7 ft sickle mower. Its a jd model 11 pull behind. Ive cut a lot of acres in my field which is nice and flat. Today i tried to cut along the road for some extra hay and broke the pitman arm. I suspect it was the somewhat steep embankment to the ditch. Two years ago it had happened at close to the same part of the road, only 200 feet from where i started. At that time i had assumed it was because i had just bought it and the old pitman arm was rotten. I got busy and the county mowed the ditches so i never went back to try. Does anyone know if that model is only good on level surfaces or what. Any tips or pointers to its use would be great as i just do kinda what i think is good.

Pitman arm mowers do not mow well above or below horizontal. The mower you need is one that has a wobble box located on the sickle bar driven by a belt. Some examples are Ford 315, NH 450, NH 451, JD 350, IH 100 and 1200.
