On my Kubota L35 TLB, the glow plug light is staying on. I called the local dealer and they didn't have a replacement glow plug control module in stock but they did have a new relay. I put the new relay in but the light stays on so I'm thinking the glow plug control module is shot. I'll have to order a new one online so it will take a week or so before I can get a replacement. The weather is warm enough where I don't need a glow plug to start the engine. I've removed the glow plug control model, the glow plug light is off, the engine starts right up and I'm thinking the glow plugs are disconnected. I'd like to continue to use the tractor while I'm waiting for the new control module.
Question: Does anyone know if it is safe to run the tractor with the glow plug control module removed? I assume, with the control module removed, the glow plugs are off. I can't see where it would damage anything but I thought I'd post it here to see if someone could enlighten me.

Glow plugs are nothing more than an electric heater element. If you have nothing turning them or the relay running them they stay off. Glow plugs are only used to warm thing up enough to start. So if you don't need them to start you don't really need them.

I understand what you're saying Fallon and thanks for your reply. I don't have a wiring diagram but I assume the power is coming from the battery to the control module, then to the relay and on to the glow plugs. With that in mind, with the control module unplugged, the glow plugs have no power feed and are off and they won't burn out from being on continuously and over heating. Neither the relay nor the control module have a flow diagram on them so I'm guessing. I can run a 12 volt tester from the battery ground to the power feed, on the top of the glow plug, but I thought I'd ask here first to ensure I'm not missing something.
I asked this same question at the parts counter but I didn't get a firm answer so I'm assuming the guy didn't know.

Without a wiring and logic diagram it's hard to say for sure, but I would guess the ECU is using the glow plug control module to optimize engine performance and emissions during the startup phase. So, ignoring some possible slight increase in wear on the starter and battery, I can imagine this will have some impact on the emissions components but it's probably also negligible given the fact that this is a short term thing and the weather is warm. Once the engine is warm, the glow plugs are not used so it wouldn't have any effect.

I just ordered a replacement module from Messick's and ran the question past there parts man. He told me as long as the temperature is up and she starts it won't be a problem. It may be a little hard starting and she may smoke a little in the beginning just let her warm up. The control module kills both the relay & the glow plugs just as I had thought. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any way there could be a power back feed I wasn't seeing. So, I can keep working and run her in the short term until the control module arrives. Thanks for the help, it's appreciated.
