Should I repaint my JD 2210?

What is a good black paint to use for touching up the metal pieces? Can I get something at Ace that is good enough?

I use the JD gloss spray paint sometimes, its about $6.99 a can.

And i also use krylon gloss paint.

I started tearing down the tractor tonight- Pulled the front and side pieces, then took the loader and the loader mounting bracket off. Pulled the plastic kick piece off and instrument cluster and got stalled when I could not get the steering wheel off. I need to pick up a three-arm gear puller to continue there.

I took my booty to the wash sink and gave it a good bath, then used a citrus based solvent on the parts with overspray on them. It came off pretty well. I may be able to just wax up the side pieces and use them without re-painting.

I pulled the battery out and had a little rust under there, and a lot of dust. Dust way up in the electrical connectors under the gauges too.

I took a chisel and scraped off the concrete splatter too. I'll need to sand and paint the bucket and hood for sure, but maybe I can just clean up the other pieces.

After I got the loader off and battery out (disabling my snow-removal tractor), I realized I had parked it in front of my blade for the Jeep (my only other way to move snow from a 1/4mi drive, other than a shovel). That was guaranteed to make it snow tonight, and it has a little already so far, after nothing for almost a month.

I got my gauge put together, and attached it to the loader-down port and fired up the engine. The pressure goes from zero to 1500psi in about a 1/2 second, then takes another 4 seconds to creep up to a peak of 2200psi

I tried it at idle, and mid throttle, with about the same results.

Does that sound normal?

I do not remember what the max number is for the 2210, but that sounds close.

I've been making good progress- I started by scraping off the concrete splatter with a dulled wood chisel. Then used Goof Off to remove the over spray (still need to finish the loader arms).
I pulled the front grill, used a tooth-pick to clean out the concrete and sprayed a light coat of paint on it. It is amazing how much better it made it look.
A little touch-up paint where needed, and a coat of buffing compound, then cleaner/wax and it is good to go.

I also cleaned up the battery area some- was just too much of a mess and I didn't want it rusting out on me. I ordered fittings to replace the cables, but will have to do that the next time I'm in there.
I cleaned it up with a wire brush and air hose, then used the best paint-over-rust primer I could find. Dried it with a pair of 250W halogen lamps on it, then sprayed three light coats of the paint-over-rust paint.

This is the temporary spray boot I made up- Worked pretty well for keeping the fumes out the house, but not perfect. I would open a window across the room and use the fan to pull out the over-spray/fumes. But when it was cold out, it cooled down the room pretty fast. I ended up hanging two halogen lights above the spray area- the thermal heat from them kept the parts warm and baked on the finish.

Yep- lots of fun. Every time I drive on the road now I want to go get the tractor and fix some bump or hole. Of course it's a mud pit right now, so I've got to wait a little.
