Ballast Should I get Front/Rear Weights?

My Kubota L3830 is sold and I am waiting on a 2520 to be delivered next week.

As an after thought, I am considering getting the JD "Front Weight Bracket Extension" and some front weights for when I use the tiller and do not have the FEL mounted. Can I assume that the front weight rack, FEL and quick attach front do not interfer with each other.

Also, I am getting the JD front snow blower and have a 300lb +/- RB. Should I think about tire weights or would the RB be enough? I will be running chains 4x4 and I don't want to fill the tires. I felt my 3830 was too light in the rear during the winter with a 7' RB and the FEL on the front. Traction was good, but...

You cannot have the loader and the extension bracket mounted at the same time.

I bought 3 70 pound weights from the 3000 series and they fit fine with no bracket.

I don't think you will need the extension. I don't need it with my 2305 and tiller. I put five 40 lb weights on the front just to help turn during the second pass. I could get by without them but they look really cool and I have the leaping Deere painted yellow.

For the snow blower, buy all the weight you can afford for the rear axle. More is better when pulling the 3pt blade.

The 2520 has a narrower frame and only has room for 3 weights.
That is why I went with the 70 pound weights.

I have the front weight extension bracket on mine and have 7, 42 lb weights for it. I can leave the extension bracket on with the loader, but not the weights.

Not sure, but I don't think you can keep the front weight extension bracket on with the front quick hitch for the blade/blower. It is very easy to remove, just two bolts.

Finally, I have two, 60 lb wheel weights on each rear wheel and they are very handy. Can even get away with doing light loader/pallet fork work without adding any weight on the three-point hitch. So, I would recommend either wheel weights or filled tires for generally planting the tractor. It is my understanding that you can have up to three rear wheel weights per side, but the third one sticks out and looks a little strange....

AKKubota, I have the 5' KK tiller which weighs 700lbs (according to the book) and have no need for extra weight when the loader is off. You should be fine there.

The main reason I went with the three 70 pound weights was price. My dealer wanted $46 for each 40 pound weight and $194 for the extention and mounting hardware for a total of $516. I got the three 70 pound weights for $210.I hope to get close to 70 pounds of weight by filling the front tires. So I should save about $300.

Ref the front: If I add the extension as an after thougth, would the 70 lb weights still work? And could I "mix" the 42's in as well?

Don't know about mixing/matching the front weights, but I might like to do that also at some point, so would be interested in hearing the answer.

If you order two sets of rear wheel weights, be sure and check the hardware box BEFORE you leave the dealer. There should be four long carriage bolts and four short ones, along with eight nuts and washers. Mine came with only two of each which isn't enough, you need two long ones and two short ones per side.

I had to arm wrestle with the parts guy to get him to cough up the missing bolts (he couldn't picture how the weights were installed and they don't come with instructions).
