shortening sickle bar

I read where someone wanted to shorten their sickle bar! And the answer was to just cut it off! Is that just that simple?

Yes and I'm not sure, you still have to put the end back on and I wonder if the bar is hardened steel and holes needed to put the bolts through. It can still be done but less simple. Now with that said, Is the bar that the end bolts to hard, I figure it is but does anyone know for sure?
