I have a garage/shop that’s 20’x30 with 10’ walls, kinda like vaulted ceilings with one layer of bubble insulation (sides & walls) it’s in SC therefore it’s hot and humid which makes it uncomfortable inside the building.

I may add a second layer of the bubble insulation to the ceiling as I have almost enough leftover.

I am thinking about a mini split HVAC system, but when I run the size calculations it comes up with 24k units.

I don’t want it to run day in and out and maintain 70 degree, but I would like it to make it more comfortable to work inside for while I’m in it.

What is the minimum size HVAC mini split that I can get by with?

Need more info on what you have for insulation in walls and ceiling. If you don't have much insulation... it is going to run day in day out. Most bubble wrap is a joke as far as insulation is concerned.

I agree, but it keeps condensation from happening and raining it down inside. It is at the most like R 4 to 6 range in both the walls and ceiling.

Like I said I plan to do a second layer of the bubble insulation in the ceiling spaced down say 1.5” below the first ceiling layer.

Picture of ceiling currently.

It has five windows (single pane) four in west wall and one under the lean-to.

Those calculators are setup to do a living area and maintain a comfortable house environment.

I just want it to kinda take the edge off the heat and lower the humidity while I am in the garage.

I have split in my 26x30 steel building with insulation everywhere but the doors. I set the ac at 83 in the summer(upper 90s and 90% humidity for most of the summer. Even at 83 with out the humidity it feels ok the I just turn it cooler if I’m in there. The main reason I use it to to keep the condensation off of my tools and thing when there temp swings. Adds about $50 to my electric bill.
