been doing minor maintenance to my "new" 1610D but about ready to
actually use it now. A friend was concerned that there appears to be
no shear pin anywhere in the "bush hog" PTO connections. The only
weak link i see is a standard bolt that pins the back side of the
drive shaft to the gear shaft on the bush hog. The drive shaft has a
full plastic cover so i didnt look in there. Do i have a shear pin
somewhere? Is the bolt soft enough to shear before damage to the PTO?
Do i need a special bolt or pin to prevent damage to the PTO?

The bolt could be a Grade 2 bolt. In that case it could serve as a shear pin. They are pretty soft. If you have doubt, get a slip clutch.

That bolt is the shear pin. If it is a grade 2, (no marks), you are good to go.

That bolt WILL shear too! Had a customer recently engage the PTO instantly at full rpm. Sheared right off. It was a 1/2" bolt on a 20hp tractor. We had joked the week before that the tractor would never shear one of those. It did. Guess the designers knew what they were doing.

OK thanks guys
The bolt has only a triangle stamped on it, no radial marks. According to internet reference i found, it is a grade 1 or 2 so im good to go.
