Shavings in HST

I have read a few posts about people finding shavings in the hst trans when changing hyd oil. I serviced my 4100 the other day for the first time and the screen was for all intents and purposes, clean. Of course there was only 50 hours on the tractor but I could not stand it any longer , had to change everything, it was the second time for the engine oil. I know the book tells us differently but I just feel better. The last JD I had lasted over 20 years and is still going.......

I change my oil and filter plus hydraulic fluid and filter between 45 to 50 hours,and my dealer says "your throwing your money away" and even the manual states longer period of time in between changes.
Nope..Wrong..Can't do for I also feel more comfortable w/more service often.

Gary, I purchased a 4100 last year and recently changed my transmission (HST) at 50 hours. The filter screen was full of metal shavings. I was terrified and surprised. I have read many postings and had others respond to my posting. It sounds like many others have had metal shavings in all makes and models. If you didn't have many or none, that's great. I sent my shavings to John Deere, they haven't responed yet.
Keep changing those fluids regardless of what the manual or a dealer tells you. At least you feel good about it. I now have
60 hrs and will be changing my trans. fluid again soon. I shouldn't find any shavings. I really like my 4100 and haven't had any problems yet. Eric
