Bet that ship has a few tickets stuck on it's windsheild.

Don't they have Tugs? BIG Tugs. they must. And/or dredging equipment that really never stops working a canal. I'm guessing the current (yes and certainly wind) is really messing them up. End of story, is that those things are only meant to be moved while floating. Kind of like attempting to move a vehicle that is high centered.

Well, that certainly takes some "profit" out of that size and design of ship.

I hate to think about the poor crewmen on some of those ships stuck sitting on the hook in a layoff anchorage waiting...not only is it boring but some of them will be down on their food stores...gets old quick when all you have to look forward to is a good meal and that could be a while...!

Grub-Tug...can you hear me now?

Tugs failed. Dredgers called in.

"Traffic remains suspended with no new or projected changes. As of 1745 hrs, we have received information that two dredgers are underway. They are expected to commence their efforts around 2000hrs."

Really, I didn't make up the erroneous news that the ship had been moved parallel to the bank. Here was likely the source for what I saw:

Quoting your Lloydslist link:
"An email seen by Lloyd’s List and sent by the GAC Egypt SCT Coordinating Office ... said that the vessel was partially refloated and currently alongside the Suez Canal bank side.
... A spokesman for BSM, however, described the reports as “inaccurate” and confirmed that the vessel has not moved.

Lots of good information at that Lloyds source:

... any effort to pull the ship off will require care.

An alternative will be to dig out a wide ‘turning circle’ in the soft sand banks that line the canal, but that too will take time and equipment.

They might try concentrating the weight amidships to get some sag. I have no idea how much hog/sag the ship could stand. If they lighten the ship by pumping off bunkers, they will be removing weight down low while the cargo weight remains set. This will reduce stability. If they get the center of gravity too high, the ship may be "stable", but another wind gust could heel it over. [Height of CG is applicable to trailers too, so the thread has not been hijacked.]

Prop wash would likely only cause shoaling in the vicinity. Hopefully there is a dredge with both suction and digging capability enroute. While sand is obvious, the builders likely used rock to stabilize the banks.

They’ve raised vessels although probably not that big from the bottom with air bags. Couldn’t they use them to raise it enough to get unstuck?
