Was it windy that day? I've seen mobiles tipped over from the wind while they are in transit. That stretch of the interstate crosses a big bog, and there's nothing to cut the wind.
This is approximately where it went over. I don't recall any strong winds for months, nothing like they have in open priarie etc. But its possible. My theory with no hitch remaining, is the hitch wasn't welded on securely. The front structure, triangle, isn't twisted like a rollover would cause.

Not interstate, Route 37 just a low volume two lane highway. Incidentally my wife arranged the funding paperwork to build that center wall, after several horrible crashes raised the priority. The route had been one of the most deadly stretches in the state for headon crashes and no escape shoulder. When I was a little kid, believe it or not this was striped as three lanes with the center lane for headon passing.

This is approximately where the trailer went over. And there are often fresh skidmarks like the second picture. Hopefully that was a crash averted.

I will never forget my first trip to Cali 7-8 years ago was in that general area, Eastbay, north of Oakland, and I was totally taken off guard.

As I was driving East towards Antioch, I had never seen so much debris on the ground. I have traveled a lot through out the rest of the country for work, and what I saw that day was the worst I had ever seen anywhere.

Honestly, my subsequent visits were not nearly as bad, so maybe I caught it at its very worst, but there still was a lot of trash and I always thought of Cali as this pristine state......
Strange, that's not the normal situation. At least on the State-owned routes the maintenance crews do cleanup perhaps weekly. There have been a few times when they were on strike, or were sent elsewhere for mudsides, fire, higher priority emergencies, and the difference is soon noticeable. Generally you will see cleanup crews during any long trip.

Sometimes they are State maintenance staff supervising idiots, who are working off their DUI's or littering citations - and gaining an appreciation for the risk from cars zooming by, too close, maybe with drunk operators.

State does a pretty good job on freeways...

Some cities have chronic dumping problems and often those caught do not live where they dump.

A stretch on railroad frontage is always bad...

..........

I especially noticed abandoned mattresses , everywhere, especially on the sides of the highways and major thoroughfares.

Up here in Washington, at least in the Seattle area, that'd be where the homeless sleep....

I got this one last Saturday. I kept my old Duramax 2500HD for the heavy stuff. But its getting a little old for a daily and vacations. This one should handle my travel trailer. I will find out next month. Due to the smoke and predicted rain that will make a acidic mess it will sit in my garage for a while. I am going to get a clear bra and the ceramic coat it before I start using it. But it's a lot nicer with a lot more goodies on it. The good thing is they just got it and put it on the lot that morning. So it only had 4 miles on it when I test drove it. It hasn't been test driven or had a bunch of lookers climbing in and out of it. 12051.jpg

Not necessarily towing something wrong, but I still think it might fit in here. I don't see any chains tho. :)

Guy next door comes to feed his cattle. Pulls a little trailer five miles or so with an old SUV. No lights, no safety chain. Put a round bale too far back on the trailer and hitch simply lifted off ball. Moved bale ahead and simply put hitch back on ball. He says the weight will keep it there.

Scary that there are people out there like that.
