Depends on your needs/usage. I don't find the 6.5' bed on my half ton truck useless at all, in fact I use it all the time to do truck stuff... hauling lumber, hauling trash to the dump, hauling mulch, hauling motorcycles and camping gear, etc. It also does a great job of towing my two single axle trailers (one open, one enclosed), which are well within it's towing capacity.

Might not meet YOUR needs, but it is anything but useless to me.

And to keep the thread semi on topic, here is my non-useless half-ton truck hauling a load that is properly secured with 4 ratchet straps to each bike, each strap rated at 1000 lb WLL.

I am quite sure that John Denver wishes that he had bought a "REAL" aircraft.

Watch out for potholes as you drive your crane down the road while carrying an Airbus.

Nice truck Buckeyefarmer. How long did you own it before it was stolen? I like the hexegon exhaust pipe... nice touch. ;)

Not mine. I wouldn’t own that thing. Just saw it was stolen.

I was thinking about reporting him to the forum anti-drift patrol.

I'm with you bmoore. I have a short bed pickup; my 3rd one over the past 40 years. Love 'em. I have no use for a long bed. I have several trailers that I can hook up to should I need more space, which is rare.

On the other hand, I suppose there are people out there that prefer long bed pickups. Fortunately the manufacturers build both styles. I do believe there's enough room on this earth for both styles. My message is "Don't beat on me and I won't beat on you."

Hey, why you making fun of that guy! The guy in front of you looks to be using his trailer to carry a few feet of...rain gutter (?). Pulled by a dually!
Could easily go in truck bed.
At least it's strapped down!!

I have a short bed heavy duty diesel and will never go back to a long bed. With the longer cab it's much nicer. My dump trailer has a 10' bed and I have 2 flatbeds. One is a deckover with a 16 X 8.5 bed. The other is a tilt deck wit a 22 X 7 bed. All 3 trailers can carry more weight than the truck bed as well. The short bed works just fine for me. Each trailer has a use that they do better than the truck. In fact he truck can't do it and a long bed wouldn't change that. It's too high too short and too narrow. It also won't dump. And as for buying a seperate dump truck that would make no sense at all. It would cost more than all 3 trailers. The maintenance would cost more. And it could not do evreything I need it to do so I would need at least 1 of the trailers.

It is very easy to outfit yourself with all kinds of different options, one thing fits all for most people is not a good option!

I have wanted a small dump truck for 25 years, financially it just never made sense for me, it was just one of my "wants", my half tons have served me well for the last 40 years, in my younger years, had 2 3/4 tons, then I went to jeep CJs for a while, and landed on half ton short beds ever since, those and my trailer does everything I need
