Hey, why you making fun of that guy! The guy in front of you looks to be using his trailer to carry a few feet of...rain gutter (?). Pulled by a dually!
Could easily go in truck bed.

That's one man's opinion. A lot of people who don't make their living hauling the way that you do get a lot of use out of our half tons. I haul all of my firewood home over the course of a few weeks, 1/4 cord at a time.It costs me nothing because I load up before coming home at the end of the day.
My snowsled is in the back all winter for weight and because I need it at least a couple of times per week.
If my dog gets muddy, or if I take him swimming on the way home, he goes into the back of the truck. Today I was covering to much ground to take him with me all day, it's too hot to leave him in the cab so I put a sheet of plywood across the back of the bed for shade, put his bed and some water in with him and left him there for 6 hours.

My little Ranger-the one which has no brakes- has had (2) 55 gallon drums of water in it all summer, every night I water the pigs and birds, then the rest goes onto the garden.

I would love to have a small dump truck but can't justify the expense... Actually just spent the last two months trying to find a 3/4 ton that I could put my rack body on, but anything which isn't rusted all to cat s**t is going for like-new prices; and I can't justify 35K on a pickup that big when I only need it for about 1/4 of the time, is only going to get 12 MPG, and has no room in the cab for things like spare or winter clothing, first aid kit and other supplies, dog... to say nothing of how useless a dump bed would be for 99.99999% of my job.

Which is I don’t daily drive my ton truck. My suburban has way more room in the cab to keep my stuff dry and somewhat secure. The downside is it probably doesn’t get any better mileage than the dump truck.

I didn’t say that. I said a half ton regular bed truck was almost as useless as the Cadillac “truck”.

Which is I don’t daily drive my ton truck. My suburban has way more room in the cab to keep my stuff dry and somewhat secure. The downside is it probably doesn’t get any better mileage than the dump truck.

As I said before, one man's opinion. I consider a full-sized SUV to be the most useless thing on the road unless you are transporting several people on roads that aren't good enough for a car. They're too big to easily fit into parking spots, useless for hauling anything which is taller than the too short cab height; nowhere except the passenger space for hauling fuel, lawn mowers, et.al. The only way to haul a 100 lb propane tank is lying down; aside from the fact that it's illegal, it also can be a nice missile should you get into an accident. Did I mention no good way to tie things down?

Many years ago my company issued me a Blazer. I was marking a lot of wood in those days, so carried multiple boxes of paint. One day I had to check on a road we were building, then drive out around and paint wood in another location. I drove about 100 miles on gravel roads that day... by the time that I got home all that I could hear was those paint cans rattling.

To each their own but you can keep your SUV. I'll haul all of those things isolated in the back of my pickup.

I’ve got way better tie down options than a pickup ever dreamed of having. I’ve got 2 rings in the very back, 4 rings where the back seats used to be and 8 studs where the middle seats used to be and my toolbox is bolted now. The cargo height isn’t that limited. I can fit my table saw in it on the stand. I don’t even own a 100 pound propane tank but how are you going to go about tying that down in a pickup bed standing up. Everything in a pickup bed is is wet and very exposed to theft. A pickup toolbox is close to useless. You can’t reach anything. You can’t even buy a new pickup a notable amount smaller than a suburban. There’s plenty of smaller SUVs so the driving size is a moot point.
