Your asking me if I think it's okay? I've got nothing to do with it.

I think he's an idiot in a lot of respects, but he's also a big boy and does it hits way.... No taxes paid, illegal firearms, no combination plates, no trailer registration or insurance, no CDL and let's kids with DUI suspended licenses drive CDL equipment, and essentially sounds every day trying to see how he can screw the government from another penny. That's means he's out to get away with not paying for any federal, state or local fee that he can down to running only red offroad fuel in all of the illegal equipment... For years and years.

If you try to educate him he gets pissed, your a fool, mind your business....

So he does him. I do me.

Best off just to shun folk like that. Don't associate with them and let anyone around know why you'll not associate with them so they can choose to protect themselves from him as well. I certainly wouldn't start off by telling folk he's "my buddy". Cheaters never win; he'll have his fall and likely take many of those around him down with him. I've known lots like you are describing, all have ultimately been failures who die alone and pissed off.

Haven't you ever experienced or seen a case where the whistle blower or tattle-tale is suddenly the one in the hot seat? Maybe the authorities just don't appreciate you making work for them. They prefer to pick and choose their enforcement. It happens, believe me.

As far as notifying authorities, I think there is a huge difference from the guy that does a two-point tie down that might be technically illegal and the guy that does no tie downs and simply cares not about whom he may harm. We share the road.

And the buddy that makes sure everything he does is illegal, I'd put distance between myself and him. I am pretty sure Rock Crawler is not advocating that type of behavior.

A ladder can kill someone or lead to a fatal accident as much as an insecure piece of equipment. And I see ladders, furniture and all kinds of homeowner stuff going down the road insecure. Yet, people seem to freak out when it's equipment.

Also, Im sure, a lot of stuff falls off trailers and doesn't result in immediate and certain mayhem and death. The ladder lying in the middle of an eight lane highway, with fast moving bumper to bumper trafffic is probably more prevalent and dangerous.

In a society that is so utterly programmed in matters including safety, there are those that then somehow think that if you don't abide by those safety rules, that the threat will immediately come to fruition. Fire a gun without safety glasses and you will lose an eye, drive a tractor without ROPS and seatbelt and you WILL flip and be injured or killed. That kind of thinking.

The concern is not about the idiot doing all he can to avoid fees, taxes, regulations etc.

The concern is about all the other people, including my family, out there.

The rules and regulations are typically not about the 99+% time of normal operation. But they are created to deal with the rare times that something fails or goes wrong. Putting the bucket on deck and setting the brake will keep the machine on trailer driving done the road. But when a blown tire, car darting out, etc causes the driver to swerve or brake hard we don't want that machine rolling off on to the minivan full of kids.

This thread is full of pictures of what happens when something goes wrong.

To the original question of what to do about someone hauling wrong. It depends. Two chains instead of required four - drive past of ignore. Whipping through traffic with unchained machine sliding around on trailer - call or dashcam video to state police.

The guy avoiding all the rules and taxes is running on borrowed time. He probably doesn't have the financial means or insurance to help those hurt when something eventually goes wrong.

Even the airlines accept a certain amount of "DEATH" as just an economic fact.

It really ticks me off, how many times I have had to strap stuff down in my P/U using perfect, tagged straps, just to prevent from getting a fine, when there was just about zero chance of killing someone.

It's why pu covers are so great. You can't legally drive around here with an unstrapped lawnboy in the back of your truck, but if you have a cover, you can drive around all day with an unstrapped CAT engine block.

Looks like he backed into something

I have a creek crossing with a steep angle of attack on both sides and something similar happened to my trailer tongue.

Picture a "V" with the ball at the bottom and both sides raised... lots of leverage possible.

Thanks for the continued input. Rock Crawler. I hear you. But they are not MY laws or regulations. They are societies. Therefore, I could care less what anyone thinks of them. They can take them up with their political representatives if they have issues with them. trucckdia.... I also hear you. This guy will not listen to anyone. He's been notified by other government entities and has ignored and then referred to the states attorney's office regarding other offenses. If he's not going to listen to them, he sure the heck is not going to listen to me. This is why Rock Crawlers response does make sense.

I would definitely steer clear of THAT Bozo. We all know people that think they are above the law and with friends like that...who needs enemies.
