It doesn't matter what your opinion is about any of the situations in this thread; life is more valuable than a cargo strap or the time it takes to install said strap. If ya can't find it within yourself to agree with that, ya seriously need mental help or locked away from all the normal folk. Perhaps (probably) both.

You don't have a right to tow, haul, or even drive for that matter. It is a privilege. Do it properly or not at all. It is really sad the level of care folk have for their fellow man.

The problem is deciding just what is the "proper" way to do it.

If it is done with no damage or injuries, I would think that was "proper".

I have probably made a few mistakes in my life lashing things down, but I always look at the way things are lashed, especially on a trailer.

There has been times I have thrown a step ladder or something in the back of my truck without straps, but after paying attention to some scenarios on this thread, I think I may be a little more vigilant in the future.

Yes. I have no problem learning from other people's mistakes or misfortunes.

We are all born "Stupid". We learn by watching and imitating and later on by reading and reasoning. Learning is a life-long process.

Some. Others are born knowing it all and refuse even the most common sense. It is those of which I speak.

This is true. I knew it all at 16 but have come to realize that I've forgotten most of it.

Old people can learn too, I remember how much my father learned while I was away in the service.

well if we are being critical of ourselves....

today i had an overloaded trailer. 8000 lbs ish on a 7000 lb trailer. trailer had no brakes. i spent 5-10 minutes monkeying with the brakes and the lights, got the lights to work never did get the brakes to work. oh well drive slow, drive cautious, drove 10 miles. now it gets unloaded, then i'll bring it back and fix the brakes

It's all a matter of probabilities. If you are only going to do something one time and there is only a one in 10 chance you will kill someone, do you do it? You can drive your whole life and only have a limited chance of killing or injuring someone, but most of us carry insurance. You know what the investment companies say "Past results do not guarantee future performance."
