Agreed you won稚 hurt the rear diff by pulling it. People pull driveshafts and pull with the rear diff on the ground all the time. I really don稚 understand why you can稚 leave the transmission in neutral and pull it but you can稚.
A manual transmission and transfer case are lubricated by the countershaft spinning, thereby splashing oil onto the input and output shafts and their respective gears and bearings. If they are in neutral and the engine is shut off, the counter shaft isn't spinning due to it being driven by the input shaft, so little to no lubrication is splashed up onto the input and output shafts. The output shaft can't spin the countershaft unless the transmission is in gear.
I haven't been into a automatic transmission so I don't know for fact but Fallon's description makes sense to me.
