Well, today the idiot was myself. I had to pick up a friends busted down 2500 suburban 65 miles away. My little trailer was under built for this task but I risked it anyway. It's an old trailer probably 15 years or better. 2-3500lb axles and a 16 foot deck, no trailer brakes either. I made it, but the trailer was not happy!!
I can't wait until I can get a new 24 foot Gooseneck.

Transmission went out, I only had reverse, is why I loaded it that way.

Made sure not to make any sharp turns!! Dang I really need to retire this old POS, even my safety chains are inop.

Soft straps are too light duty in This application but I didn't have chains and binders.

I'm ready to get flamed for this! I won't do it again. But "if it fits, it ships" LOL!

Not flaming. But you should at least add safety break away chains to the tongue of that trailer. Hate to think what would happen if the hitch let go while you had that running down the road. Especially with the light tongue weight you were running.

I was thinking about that the entire trip. Believe me. What I really need to do is retire this thing. It's had a long service life. Lol.

Might I also suggest a new dust cap on the RF trailer axle? That way you wont sling grease all over the place or lose a bearing due to a lack of grease.

No safety chains and no pin or lock on the coupler?:eek: That's not good at all with an empty trailer much less a risky loaded trailer.

There痴 more tongue weight than people are giving you credit for. That truck carries a truck camper so I would think he has heavier springs or bags. It痴 not hanging much past the rear axle. It痴 not ideal but works. I would致e been worried about bending that rear axle when loading but if it does, perfect time to add a brake axle and jacks at the back to protect it

That's what I was thinking. The center of the axles is right in the middle of the front door - the tongue can't be too light.

And no trailer brakes. With that weight it would be illegal out here :whistleblower:

What's wrong with the tie down straps? They look more than adequate to me.

What never ceases to amaze me is that people will go out and spend 10's of thousands of dollars on a boat and trailer, or a nice covered trailer to put their new $12000 snowsleds in, and not bother or care that their brake lights aren't working. It seems like pretty cheap insurance that your vacation won't be wrecked before you get there. A few years ago someone pulled into the gas pumps in their RV after driving 200+ miles up the highway dragging the light/brake plugin which they never hooked up ; it wasn't much good at that point, to say the least.
