No I got it but just saw a little irony in the placement with those pretty green photos and had to pick on you a bit.

I just always found it funny that JD made there large 4WDs so light that they had to supply a tow cable with the tractor - of course they didn't find this out until some had been out in the field a while and they got a few complaints.

Those are scraper specials. Used to pull those huge pan scrapers. When more traction is needed, they have those heavy cables already rigged up so you can pull in tandem for more power. Kinda like the self propelled scrappers have a big plate on the rear so a Dozer and push on them

Those cables are for recovery , as in stuck . They run back to the draw bar mount , strongest place to pull on them . If you watch those scrapers run there is no way a contractor is going to stop and hook unhook a cable . They would also be running into each other hooked up like that . Pushing or hook and bail with the big boys is done on the run , 657 , 637 ,s . Most of the tandem scrapers these tractors pull do not like being pushed . All of these farm tractor scraper rigs are set up with that cable if they are smart , Case , CAT ,JD . And when they get hung up it is usually loaded with up to 36 yds. of material on them ,. lot of weight . Takes a big pull to get them out . Not as much as that dragline but still a pull .

Nope there are many of these out in farm country and I doubt any have ever seen a scraper. My nephews showed me the book on how the purpose of it was there to pull it out if stuck because I was giving them a hard time about the strength of green paint.

They come standard on the scraper specials and are an option on all 9 series tractors.

John Deere

I didn’t know they were an option on all 9 series. Just always seen them on the scraper tractors

First attempt at loading a picture so hopefully this works.

I'm not sure this fits in this thread as the tree wasn't hauled down the highway this way. It was hauled about 3 miles out of the forest to get to the pickup, then laid on the trailer to finish the trek to the house.

Unfortunately, drivers train themselves to ignore the LED so they can spread-dump; and if equipped with an alarm, they rip it totally out or bypass it. What is needed is something that limits the truck speed to 5MPH or less if the dump is raised. Such a thing does not yet exist.

That would be great if all any dump truck did was dump in piles or spread homeowner driveways. On industrial jobs we often spread at 10-15 mph emptying both boxes in a matter of seconds. There were 90 to 120 trucks separated by less than a minute. Immediately behind the truck a road-grader smoothed it out, followed by two rolling compactors. We spread over 500,000 tons of gravel in 30 ton loads for about six weeks.
I don't recall ever seeing a LED for anything other than PTO, tailgate latches, reach lock, and pup trailer steering lock.
However your idea has some merit. Perhaps a kill switch if the box were up and the transmission was in high range. Although I don't recall seeing any switch or sensor on any box on any dump truck I've driven. I think mechanics and owners would see it as just something else that would need fixing, or that would go bad at the wrong time.

Maybe just get drivers who are smarter than the load. :D

Speaking of trailers, I haven't seen any of the long semi-(dump) trailers for several years. Lots of side dump semi-trailers now.
