I need to haul my old diesel Mercedes on a UHaul trailer this weekend. Now I know how not to do it.

Oh no, he has is all wrong. You definitely roll those windows down and run the straps through the car. Can't risk the straps blowing off.

But just roll the windows down an inch or so and tighten the straps real good. :D

I once had to go get someone's vehicle that had broken down and wasn't really road-worthy before it broke. Once it was on the trailer, I started to try and strap it down; issue was, the entire undercarriage was rotted out with rust. I ended up strapping it down somewhat similarly to that.

It can't be a joke, and it can't be real. What the..........

I've seen that one before and one can only hope that the boys were playing a joke on the rookie.

Somebody linked an explanation a while back... Bored fire fighters & a tracks that were shutdown for a week.

The straps on the car on top of the UHaul car hauler are completely unnecessary. The UHaul car hauler integral straps at the front and rear keep the car totally secured. I've used the very same UHaul car hauler trailer many times.

Remember Clamp on Bumper Tow Bars?

View attachment 511526

Have never seen anything like it every again, but when I was little in the mid 70's dad had a tow bar with clamps at each end with double swivels and a pivot in it where one car could tow another car and all it did was clamp onto the cars bumpers think the thing was just under 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. Only saw him use it once but it worked.

That one's a double winner! An A-frame to mount on the front of the towed car, or, take off the A-frame and clamp that crossbar on the back of the tow vehicle to tow using its ball.

I didn't get a photo because i was driving beside him on a freeway at 70 this morning, but this guy had a landscape trailer with a Kubota BX w/loader and fertilizer spreader on it. It was tied on - one strap from the front axle to the front of the trailer.

I left quick and sure hoped he did not have to stop quick.

Nice trailer, and good thing he was smart enough to put those "Doggles" [a brand-name] on his pup- we have a pair from when we had a convertible and used to go driving with our St. Bernard- he had to wear them, otherwise his eyes got terribly irritated.- and the usual and constant drool was already bad enough without adding eye-splooge.

Awe man! I had everyone else beat until this post lol.

I hauled x6 2x12x16 boards along with x24 2x8x8, box of joist hangers and 8 bags of quick Quick Crete in the bed of a 1999 F150 SuperCab with a 6ft bed.

I had the tailgate up and everything strapped down, it was an hour drive home.

I'm not trying to beat anyone, but...

My B-I-L needed to buy some stockade fencing, and I had the only truck of any kind at all in the family- a 1988 S-10 with extended [but not Crew-] cab and 8 foot bed.

The fencing panels were 8' high by 8' long, and we loaded the truck so full of them [by alternating the way that they faced in pairs so that the cross rails meshed together] there was no space at all left between them and the wheel humps, then packed Quick-crete bags in front of and behind the wheel humps to add support, finally strapping it all together with 2 HF 1.5" ratchet straps- one high and one low.

We put as many people as we could physically fit into the truck cab as ballast- besides my [then 195#] self, my B-I-l had my S-I-L sitting in his lap, my teenage nephew sat on the center console [it had bucket seats], and 2 of my B-I-L's friends both sat on the fold down jump seats in the cab extension.

Despite [or because of] that, I couldn't get it to go over 17 MPH all the way home [by backstreets where ever possible], and even so, the under-steer was so bad that I could barely make the turns necessary to get there.

A couple years later, we put a full sized refrigerator in the back for my other B-I-L, [standing up, of course] well-strapped in, but then couldn't get it to go over 45 MPH [or 50 down hills] on the highway because of the sail effect of the refrig extending approx 2 feet or so above the cab.
