I was doing a good deed this weekend and admit it looks ultra sketchy - which it was...

At least it appears to be a metal building so there's not a huge amount of weight there, just a lot of surface area to catch the wind.

Other then permits, signs, flags, & escort, it looks good to me.

Fine job.
Pull it with the tractor and it's agricultural so none of that is needed, right? I see guys around here pulling heavy equipment on trailers behind tractors in the spring to side step the frost laws.

As long as you have your orange triangle on the back, you're good.

:D

Good job. How did you get it up there? And is it sitting on the rails?

Yes - on the pipe top of the trailer. Could not find a deckover and they were in a hurry... Jacks and cribbing used to elevate it. Here's a link to a complete set of pictures in an independent thread. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/projects/379880-shed-move-tractor-redneck-engineering.html

Just so happens to be private roads, so we avoided the moving violation concerns... Had to watch out for a few drivers who were none too impressed, but it was not very far down the road.

This thread is mostly about the towed load....... we could probably have another thread dedicated to just the stupidity of other on-road drivers around large loads....

Was watching Highway Thru **** last night..... there's (at least) one big snow-shed on the Kok where a truck with a tall-load HAS TO BE in the left lane - you only have to see it once to understand why. Even with escort trucks, some yoyo in a pu still had to try and squeeze by as a tractor trailer grossing 90 tons HAS TO move left. Snow and ice on-road too, of course.

Re carrying that shed, there was a similar photo on here long ago of a member who drove into his dirt-floor shed, lifted it somehow, and drove it down the road to the neighbor's.

I think Thingy was that poster's name. Everything he wrote was entertaining.

I'd forgotten about him. Everything,,, had,,, lot's,,, of triple,,, commas,,, in all he wrote. And he liked to stir the pot.

Just think of Joey's response when a gust of wind picks up the mattress and takes it for a magic carpet ride! Jon

Reminds me of this great quote from a tornado 25 years ago about a couple who flew on their mattress...

“I held onto her as tight as I could,” Mr. Cimerro said, “and the next thing I knew, we were flying. It was like a ride at the fair.”

.

(they were a mile from us and ended up in a tree... tornado hit the next apartment complex from where we stayed.)

Passed one yesterday that I couldn't get a picture of because I was going the other way and didn't have phone handy. A short flatbed style F550 or similar style had very large and wide round bales on the flat bed part side by side (hanging over both sides by 2.5-3 feet or so) the entire length of the flat bed area with a single giant roll on top of each down the middle of the bed.

I noticed it as it was pulling onto the road turning toward my direction. The front end and entire vehicle was very squatted and tilted pretty far while turning into the road and that caught my attention, then noticed how far over the sides the load was. As it was coming my way on a small two lane road, I slowed way down and pulled as far to the side as I could and noticed as it got closer there was not a strap of any kind anywhere. It was so top heavy that it was wobbling in my direction.

I was pretty nervous about it all coming undone as I squeeked my way around and by it, but glad to get past it. They were counting on nothing but gravity and the bales wedged on top to keep everything else in place I guess. That would have been a good time for a trooper to come by, but that never happens when you want it to.

A few months ago, I saw what could have been the exact same truck following another truck just like it piled very high with regular square bales. They were both going slow and I got caught up behind. At a turn, they slowed way down, one turned very slow, then the 2nd one and during the turn, the 2nd one came all undone and bales fell all over the place. They both parked and jumped out and started restacking. Luckily, I wasn't turning. Once again, not a strap anywhere. Stacked way up above the cab level in every bit of space available.

I don't have it out for folks or anything, but I do get ill when their shortcuts could cause problems for others.
