This is done all the time. I'm float plane rated and taking off from the trailer is not that big of a deal. Landing it on grass can be.

Chris

I am 75 years old, flew for 39 years, have 29,000+ hours flight time, (from the T-34 to the 747-400) and have more than a few aircraft carrier landings as well.
I would absolutely not do it, when being towed by a truck! The dolly method does seem to be a little bit better.
This follows the OLD aviation adage: "There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots"!

Is that pic the famous "Dave's Tractor" of TBN fame? or just a random Dave's Tractor? :D I've learned a lot from Dave and appreciate him. Nice shop there.

That is me on the tractor, as I won't let an employee sit on a tractor on the forks...it's not the smartest idea and I'm not the smartest...so it's a good match!

That's my son on the forklift as I know he is careful, and our lead mechanic Jeff in the red shirt. It's probably safer to sling the tractor into the trailer or to use a set of ramps, but this was quick and easy. Sometimes to load a ramp-less trailer we will drive the tractor onto our rollback, then back the rollback up to the customer's trailer and then tilt the bed and do it that way. That is the better way.

Forklifts can do amazing things...

At the plant one of my duties was to drive the forklift which I enjoyed...

The boss saw me one day and said I should do it all the time... thought I was in trouble because I had been doing it when no one was available... said I was careful and that was more important than being a forklift jockey...

I have no where near your experience. I have 10,300 hrs. 8,500 if those hours are in Corporate jets and turbo props.

It's really not that big of a deal with the float planes. To me it's much safer than crop dusting and some of the other flying I have done.
