Sounds like it's time to put in a 12" diameter, 1/4" wall well casing sunk in 6 feet deep and filled with concrete.
Nah. If it were vandalism I would have put in something solid long ago.

But the women over there are wonderful neighbors. For one example, gifting us some of the excellent wine they make every year. And watching our for our place when we are over at our primary home 2 hours away. Part of being good neighbors is not complaining about trivial stuff their guests did. It appears that they, or the neighbor at the end of the lane, occasionally make repairs also.

Their AirB&B guests aren't country smart but I don't sense any bad intentions. When there are too many cars jammed in there I'm not surprised they back into things. I expect some of them have to pay for a scratched bumper when they turn in their airport rental.

We're several hundred ft in from the lane so I've never seen an incident. If I ever do, I'll ask the driver to get their insurance to build us a replacement. Which is likely to get clobbered again. :)

I have mine on 4x4 cedar posts set into brackets in concrete. I'd rather the snap-off of the 4x4 than a lawsuit given the day we live in.

That's what I have. With the concrete 'feet' half exposed, after being pushed many times.

The problem with roadside mailboxes is that they are usually built on public rightaway. Building a immovable structure on public property that caused injury or death could end in a legal nightmare.

I used to live along the main street in one of Pennsylvania's many old Victorian-era towns, main street also being a state highway that got plowed by the big tri-axle trucks that also handle the interstates and turnpike. Losing mailboxes was just part of every snow storm, there.

So nearly everyone who had a mailbox on our street reseigned to just putting them on something that cold be knocked over or even rolled away, in each snow storm. The two most common solutions were a farm milk jug with a little concrete ballast in the bottom, or a semi-floater axle half shaft on an old wheel... sometimes with tire still mounted!

I live in a rural and see that way too often. I don't know if there is way to make them understand there is a real purpose behind the meaning of the symbol.
Doubtful. Most of them that are doing it require an app on their phone to figure out how to scratch their butt with their finger. Not to mention the avocado toast.

Around here, they build those "brick castle" mailboxes in the county/state RW. I know someone that hit one and the owner had to pay for car and injuries! If it's set back on your property, then it would be other way around!
