I see FedEx, UPS and USPS almost daily
Fedex, and USPS have dropped several of my neighbors packages on my porch.

Neighbors got a gate going into their property to cut down the turn around traffic. It's not locked, and open most of the time. But they will close it if they start getting a lot of turn around traffic.

If the weather's crap and they get a delivery notice, chances are really good that it's sitting on my porch instead.

Once the weather eases, I'll load it in the truck and drive it down to them.

If it's really heavy, I'll flag them down when I'm out walking and make them get it

Ordered something on 12/18 for which the latest delivery is "estimated" to be tomorrow 1/21. Then again every week I get an email pushing it out another week.
Sellers waiting for their supply to come in. We've had that happen on a couple items we ordered.

Are you ordering Prime-eligible items or sold/shipped from 3rd parties? What you describe is very rare in my experience. But I mostly choose things that are listed as 'Prime'.
At least 99% is Prime, and maybe 5% from 3rd parties. Things that are coming from Korea, China, etc. I obviously don't expect to arrive quickly, but they tend to show up sooner than predicted.

Occasionally I get things sent by SurePost, but since we don't have mail delivery here it's easier to get UPS directly. The post office closes at 15:00 on weekdays, UPS can be as late a 21:00. FedEx is generally here between 11 and 13.

One thing that's clear to me is that the more desperately I need something asap is directly proportional to how long it takes to arrive. Consequently, sometimes that means a 100-mile drive to a store. And yes, I do call to ask if they have what I need before heading for the store.

I'm pretty sure they deliver to any street address just as well as USPS. They don't do PO boxes (I could be wrong) . Heck UPS was delivering when USPS and FEDEX said the roads were bad.
I just expect they want more than USPS to deliver Amazon Prime

I seldom see Amazon packages coming from USPS, very often UPS parcels are "last miles" by USPS. In my area we see USPS, UPS, Fed Ex and Amazon (once in awhile their truck but more often by their "casual" drivers using personal vehicles) often at extreme times very early or vary late.

As a preloader for UPS I can tell you that until something changes the contract between UPS and USPS with surepost is done as of Jan 2nd. It was a change when we came back after the new year. Some aspects of it I like but it really affected how I load my trucks. Majority of surepost are small and a pain to nicely incorporate into my loading method. Not everybody cares how their trucks are loaded. Trust me. I've disassembled trucks and reloaded them when I was tasked with assisting.

Put your hands on the item, an set it behind the customer service desk with my name on it please!!!

I've been in that situation myself. It sucks to drive all that way and have it sold 20 minutes before you get there

Things change with time, but I do remember seeing a documentary on the USPS maybe 10 years ago, and this was actually one of the big points being made in the documentary. The USPS must deliver to every US address, no matter how remote, whereas many or most other couriers have exclusion areas to which they just will not deliver. I don't remember the exact numbers, either in affected population or land mass, but do remember that it was more prevalent that I'd have assumed.

This tangent will peter out soon enough. I've already got them onto USPS vs. UPS. :p
And I will help... UPS which is generally good about shipping things, at least has been for us, has crapped and fell back in it. I purchased a firearm off of Gunbroker, that was shipped on the 14th, it got to the terminal that would deliver it to my FFL on the 16th and now it is missing. Contacting UPS I get crickets, nothing, nada... contacting the shipper I get wait a few more days. I have a LOT of money in a package lost out there and cannot get squat for help finding it.

FedEx is crap for delivering to our area, UPS had been reliable but this now makes the second package lost in the last year. So far USPS is the only one that has not lost any thing that I know of YET. Although there have been a few news stories lately of people not getting their mail and getting late charges on bills. One small community last week had not gotten any mail since Jan. 4. It is getting to the point the only reliable way to get anything is to pick it up yourself but we all know that is not possible so what can you do?

Some smaller towns have a central post office location instead of rural mail delivery.

This is the kind of stuff that keeps me awake at night. I routinely ship packages with values over $60k, and try to be as fastidious as I can in the FOB (or DAP for Europe) terms, so that I won't be responsible for the cost if the package is lost. Purchaser chooses shipping options, and usually pays for shipping, and so often they specify "no insurance" due to the high rates UPS or Fed Ex charge on theirs. I just hope they have other shipping insurance, since sometimes things get lost.

The most expensive single package I sent last year was around $135k, but that one went on a pallet and shipped via Duie Pyle. You'd better believe I was checking the tracking twice every day, on that one.
