It does make me wonder about society in general. It "seems" to me that most people have no interest in doing the speed limit. If government is there to "serve" us, why is someone in government posting speed limits slower than most people care (or think is safe) to drive? And then fining and punishing us? Why do we permit this?

Did a lot of driving in Germany and found drivers and equipment better and not many fender benders... but the tow trucks on the autobahn came equipped with cranes to lift what was left of the car onto the flatbed...

How many people are breaking the law speeding (which signs tell me kills) vs people transporting a tractor?

Should be three stikes and your out for speeding. License gone, that's it. If you can't obey the law!

No in many states like Washington the speed limits are low to collect more ticket revenue. $110 from each one goes to the general fund. Other states have limits 10 to 20 MPH higher than ours or like roads under like conditions. And the speeding kills is a lie. They say it's a factor in some high percentage of crashes. They don't say its only the main factor when it's by a large margin. Plus consider this. In the 60s most states had a 70 MPH speed limit. Most cars didn't have seat belts. None had modern tire or suspension technology. None had disc brakes. None had crumple zones or air bags. And no heavy steel old cars are not safer in a crash. There is no way with modern cars and pickups that 100 MPH is not reasonable on rural freeways. Utah and Idaho are 80 MPH. They are not having any problems since they raised it. And it really doesn't feel all that fast. Even towing my travel trailer. I thought I would need to slow down with my new 1500 compared to my old Duramax. But it works just fine. It was real stable even in heavy wind.

Every single time you put a load in your trailor or pickup this should be the goal that you have in mind in case something goes wrong. And for those that wonder, I do make the attempt, every single time.

I'm not sure how many drivers are capable of handling 100 mph though. We have 75 mph up here which means that many people travel at 80-85, with a few travelling faster than that. Unless you're driving a relatively new vehicle with a tight front end, every little bump at those speeds is magnified.
Somewhere I read that higher speeds don't lead to more accidents; yet there are more injuries and deaths because the impact is amplified.

That speed is never reasonable on any public roadway in any vehicle under any circumstances. Anyone doing that speed should have their license revoked permanently and their vehicle forfeit and crushed.

And when it snows they turn on 4 wheel drive. If it rains they turn on the wipers, and if it is foggy they turn on the headlights. They don't slow down. Nothing like getting passed by a VW Bug doing a buck twenty.

65 mph down here but 80 to 100 is normal at 5 am going to work....I run about 70 to 75 no cruise control.....
