Yep the log trucks always make downtown Olympia interesting plus the train spur...

Logs shift and upset... makes the news and then letters to the Olympian follow.

John Deere as I recall actually put an axle with conventional steering, along with articulation, on one of their smaller wheel loaders, to improve stability.

TOTALLY, destroys the whole ROBUST, SIMPLE, SOLID AXLE idea of a wheel loader.

I’ve seen some of those small loader that steer with both axels and don’t articulate.

I have seen older larger ones like Michigan, but not newer ones. JCB makes an all wheel steer TLB, or did, but I don't put that in a class of wheel loader. Mostly because you don't have that great visibility, with conventional engine out front design.

Interesting, but a terrible deviation from an articulated machine. IMO.

I had a 12 ton ZOOM BOOM with all wheel steer and it would rarely drive straight. Didn't have all the electronics and sensors, they have today. That's a mixed blessing. Goes straight when it works or doesn't work at all probably.

I’ve never had a problem with 4 wheel steer machines. Also most Telhandlers are 4 wheel steer. I’m not a big fan of articulated loaders although I don’t have much experience with them. They throw the bucket/forks way sideways to move the loader a tiny bit. It makes loading pallets on a truck a pain.

Really? I love them. Like having sideshift. Very handy to reach in the cab, turn the wheel and move the loader one way or another, sometimes just to line up a chain or sling.

But, you have to watch that stability. Also, you can get yourself into places you can't get out of. 4 Wheel crab steer on the zoom boom has gotten me out of problems.

I was using a decent size loader with 8’ forks on it. I would have probably gotten use to it but a tiny touch of the wheel moved the forks sideways a foot.

I love my little Swinger, does a great job of getting in & out of tight spots. Also if I have a log sideways, I can weave it around trees if it's wider than the trail.
