I have a John Deere 950 (3 cyl Yannmar engine) and it's time for me to set the valve lash. I have done this on many gasoline motors in the past but never a diesel and never a Yannmar. I have the manual that gives the specs for valve lash and the basic procedure to set them but nothing on rotating the engine to get each cyl to TDC. On a gas motor I'll pull the plugs and rotate the crank with a breaker bar and socket. How do guys do this on a 950. Bumping the starter to get to each timing mark has never been a very easy or accurate way for me What am I missing here?
