Hi Muhammad,

Now that this new board has been humming along without a hitch, I want to again thank you for such a tremendous resource for us tractor nuts.

Just out of curiosity... What exactly do you use for a sever setup for a site like this? My area of knowledge ends at networks. People ask me now and then what kind of setup it would take to run a busy website. How do you do it? Would it be giving away all your "trade secrets" to share with me? Thanks again.

Bob,

The actual server computer is a multiple-chip Pentium with around 1/2GB of RAM, ultra wide SCSI hard drives, running on BSDI UNIX 4.01, with Apache Web Server 1.3.1. The server is connected to the Internet through an OC-3 Fiber Optic 'Backbone' link. (Compared to a normal dial-up line being a canoe, this would be something around the size of a tanker 1/4 of the size of the Atlantic Ocean) Traffic is routed through Cisco Series 7513 routers. Nightly backups are made (over 3 terabytes of storage space available). All that plus some very good technical people on the TractorByNet.com side, is how we do it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
