self-leveling FEL

Thanks for all the info on the starting up problem. Your advice is much appreciated. My 3820i has a FEL and my dealer told me that it is a self-leveling FEL. Paid a little more for it. It is a BL20S. How can I tell if it is a self-leveling? I thought a self leveling loader levels the bucket back automatically when you position the joystick. My dealer said that this loader keeps the bucket level as you raise/lower it. Just curious.

I may be wrong here but I think what your dealer meant in when you level your bucket at ground level it will remain level to the top, very important using forks, unless you have some thing much more advanced than what I just mentioned. Did you look at mfg. site and see what they say about it?

I Didnt see any specifications for self leveling. Is it a "level indicator" on the arms or "float" setting on the hydraulic stick?

My self-level function on my Kubota loader is a feedback linkage
that operates the bkt curl circuit when the boom ckt is operated.
If your FEL has it, look for extra linkages from the FEL valves to
the bkt.

I think MrJimi may be correct but I do not have any forks so I will use the bucket to find out. My dealer will be out shortly to help me w/ a glow plug issue so I will make sure and ask all the questions. I will let you know the results.

It can be done with the "right geometry" in the loader arms, but that only ensures that the bucket maintains (whatever angle to horizontal it was at) from min to max lift. I'm fairly sure Kioti has this feature on the DK45 (or so) sized tractors. If I hadn't got the deal I got on a C42 Century, etc........

It COULD be done with electronics and solenoid operated SCVs, but the tendency of feedback to cause oscillation gives me pause.

The self leveling is just as someone else mentioned. It will maintain the angle of the bucket through out the motion. If the bucket is dumped, it remains dumped. If it is level, it will remain level. It is achieved through the use of linkages and pressure reliefs.

As an add-on kit, perhaps ?

As I said, I could imagineer it with sensors and solenoid operated valves, but havn't actually SEEN an implementation.

I don't know anything about that specific loader, but I assume it is mechanical self-leveling. The self-leveling mechanism was engineered into the design of the loader. It cannot be added on later. Most of the loaders we build now use hydraulic self-leveling. We engineer our loaders in such a way that HSL works and can be added on at any time. Again though, the loader has to be engineered a certain way for HSL to work. Lots of people are scared of HSL because the early days of it were such a failure. Things would only level up and not down and it was not precise. Today's HSL are great. They level up and down and maintain almost perfect position. I am not a fan of Self-level myself, but I would only have it in the Hydraulic version.
