I was loath to permanently disable the safety switch, but definitely need a way to stand while using the forks and when hitching the FEL implements. Trying to press down on the seat with one knee while trying to control the hydrostatic pedal with the other foot was not fun. So, in desperation I came up with this hack and it has been working perfectly.

A slight improvement might be to add a tennis ball or similar to the centre of the bungee, so that when one sits down one is given a definite reminder that the safety switch is not engaged.

or.....unplug the safety switch under the seat and then jump the two sides if the female plug to override the switch.

I had to do that because my seat would freeze in the winter and the safety sensor could not “feel” me in the seat, so it would stall out as soon as i put it in gear

I did that about 8 years ago, the day after I bought it. It seems safer than some of the other workarounds. When I'm using forks I may have to stand up for an instant to see better and it seems silly to put your knee on the seat.

I opted against the jumper idea because it permanently disables the safety feature. I am a novice when it comes to tractors, so I would prefer to keep the safety switch active for general tractor use.

Freezing is not a problem in the Hunter Valley, north of Sydney. We have to worry more about the 42C/108F kind of days :)

Can just plug it in normally anytime you want; I do that (pull the jumper wire out and plug the male plug in) if i loan the tractor to neighbors.

The seat safety switch on my massey is a little block with a lever that the seat pushed down. I just ziptie the lever in the down position when I'm using the tractor for anything other than mowing. When mowing, I want that safety switch to be working.

Here's what I came up with on my John Deere 4410. I've used it for a while now and I like what I did. Basically what I did was repurpose a toaster oven timer switch to bypass the seat switch. I can either switch it to permanently on or use the timer feature to let the tractor revert to factory setup after a set number of minutes. When the switch is in the off position the safety switches work as John Deere designed them.

That would be a lot of hassle for me. For example, I might want to pick up a pallet with the forks. For that, I want to be able to stand so that I can see the tips of the forks, so I need the safety switch deactivated. Once I have the pallet on the forks, I want to carry it a few hundred metres over some sloping terrain. For that, I want the safety switch activated. Jumping on and off the tractor to put on a cable tie and cut off the table tie would be a major pain in the neck.

I simply pull the bungee over the backrest for the times I need to stand and slip it off again once I want to drive the tractor seated. It is permanently attached to the tractor, so it takes about one or two seconds to slip it on or slip it off.

On my Kubota L4400, I raised the seat. Looked at the switch, it is controlled by a nylon lever. I zip tied the lever down. done. If I want to remove it, just cut the zip tie.
