The B7100 Dynamo has a gasket for the coolant behind it. The old one had sealant on some parts of the gasket, including up the threads of the studs a bit. Based on the look and dirt of the parts and the metal under the old gasket, I would guess it's the original dynamo but i have no way to no that for sure.

The strange thing was that it didn't appear to be much sealant and it wasn't on all parts of the gasket.

So - do I put any sealant anywhere and if so, where?

I'd do an even coat over the whole surface.

whoops, too late i already installed it dry without sealant.

i noticed that the only previous sealant i could see was on the base of the studs. so i did coat the base of all the studs with sealant and on the gasket just around those studs. other than that i installed it dry.

i've put together tons of automotive intake manifold gaskets, thermostats and such that all include coolant passages. although those are aluminum engines they all hold well.

if it doesn't hold i'll be sure to post back.
