This seems almost like a reverse-reality kind of thing, with an otherwise very good machine.
Intermittent situation, evidently with my safety-ignition cut-off system: ignition will cut-off when releasing brake/clutch after starting engine. It will also cut-off when engaging the mower blades (with the engagement lever), with the brake/clutch still depressed. Also, while mowing yesterday, the engine cut-off, and thereafter the whole whacky cut-off situation has persisted.

Found all three switches: brake/clutch + engaging lever + seat, and checked them OK with ohmeter. I don't know enough about the wiring circuits to check them yet.

Has anyone seen this, or anthing similar, and have some clues for my situation?

Is there a way to get enough of the wiring diagram, without having to buy the service manual?
Thanks, sincerely, pensa

I am working on similar problems. Mine are with startup, though. I ended up bypassing the safety switches for now. I hate to do that! I am working on figureing it out. Those switches are pretty hard to get to. I guess I will cut the wires and meter things out.

JDParts has a picture of the wiring harness. It isn't as good as a schematic, but pretty good, nonetheless.

I agree that mine has been a pretty good unit. I feel like the achilles heel is just what we are facing. I imagine there are better setups for the safety swithes that doesn't place them in such a dirty location... But that adds to manufacturing cost, and more importantly, perceived value!

Normally, it should. I had already posted ther, and recieved some general help. I didn't think to post here or personally bug someone like joecdeere. He found this post here, and promply addressed it. So I am glad it was put here.

I am having a similar problem. The mower was running fine and just stopped dead. The battery is fine. I can jump from the battery to the starter and it turns over, so I know the starter is fine. I suspect either a bad ignition switch or bad safety switch. The seat switch is already bypassed. How do I bypass the brake and cutter switches??? Does anyone know if the headlights only work when the engine is running. My will not come on when the ignition switch is on run so I am wondering if this points to a bad ignition switch???
Anyone have a wiring diagram?

Lights only come on when running.

My problem is most likely the pto switch (I still haven't had time to fully solve it...)

Someone sent me the wiring diagram (THANKS!!!!)

I will pm you about getting you a copy.
